Can someone please explain James Dean

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mercury Bill, Mar 2, 2006.

  1. Thought I would give my thoughts.. Dean is "popular" now because ANYTHING retro is popular. He is the poster child of retro "what could he have done". As far as the emulation kids give to "hero's", nothing has changed. In every decade, there is someone who pushes the envelope to the conventional thinking of the day. Any arrogant acting and/or disrespectful in social situation person in that given period of time will be considered cool. Look at the **** the kids think are cool now, deviant gangster thugs who flaunt jewelry, cars, etc. We had hair band rock stars in the late 70 and 80's, whose only purpose was to do as much drugs and girls as possible and tear apart hotel rooms.. Comotose from drugs grunge rockers in 90's. Couple above with most people having disposable income now, marketers see return on their investments pushing everything from James Dean to todays High School dropout recording artists..

    thought over...

  2. Speaking of famous people, Robert Stack was a speed freak. He was an early hot rodder. One of my Don Montgomery books has a pic of him looking about 20yo working on an A roadster.

NathanHwk11 asks: Are you a NASCAR fan Mr. Stack?
Robert Stack says: Oh yes, of course. l used to in my sordid youth, I used to speed, and race hydroplanes, boats that ride like airplanes. I used to go to the salt flats, I knew Ab Jenkins, one of the great race drivers of all time. He held a 24 hour worlds record, this is why I got myself involved with Mickey Thompson. Speed was a very important part of my life. Someone once asked me if I ever tried drugs. And I said I didn't need it, I had speed. It's a kick.

pepperann768 asks: What kind of car do you drive?

Robert Stack says: I drive a 300 ZX Nissan, but my favorite car was the one Desi Arnez gave me in 1960 the night I won the Emmy. The 300SL Mercedes Roadster. We won the Emmy we had six Nominations and four awards for a show called "The Untouchables." Desi Arnez, the producer, said let's go outside amigo, and around the corner was a 300 SL Mercedes, one of the great cars of all time, A guy gets out with the Mercedes thing on his back, and said, Meester Stack, here are the keys to your car. It's in Peterson's museum in Los Angeles right now. "

He would have been 83 driving a 300Z, which is real cool, and though I'll get lynched here for, is one of my favorite cars....probably was twin turbo even :)

Actually i can explain it.At the time all the youngsters felt like him in 'rebel'.Parents were getting on to them blah blah blah. They saw in him someone who had the same teenage angst as them and he became very famous because of it.Even when i was young and saw the film i felt the same as the character he played. Now when i watch the film i think what a spoilt Brat. The director of the film knew this and also knew Dean would be perfect for the part whether he could act or no.The film is on two levels the boy becoming a man and thinking the world is against him and the adults wishing he would hurry up and become a man then he would realise the pain he was causing.Watch the film properly next time as there is far more to it thatn meets the eye.It was and still is a very good film.................Marq

My explaination is he's ****in dead. So is Elvis. And many others. Deans work? Not too bad. I kinda liked Giant. Good work. Rebel? Kinda boring. Society will always lament what and who has departed. We always see the poodle skirt, drive-in, fuzzy dice **** as "the way it was". Well it really wasn't. You think the economy ****s now? People were pretty bad off then too. It's just nostalgia, plain and simple. Mercs were kool before the movie. That's why they used it. Not the other way around. My ****ed up view anyways.
