Yes I believe so. Funky roof line isn’t it!

  3. "Funky" is an understatement.

  4. My guess would be "Club Coupe", unless I am missing something. That would make it a 78-72A. The "funky" roof allowed for passenger seats in the back. The regular coupe had a package tray in the back.

  5. I find it fascinating that Henry tried to cover every possible market even going to the trouble of making two different rooflines for the Coupes (not just in '37). If a potential buyer needed to carry extra passengers, they could have purchased a Sedan, of which there was even two versions of them, the Flatback and the "hump back" or Touring Sedan. :)

They have grown on me, a coupe with a back seat ( but Not a sedan). We need a photoshop of this with nothing but a stance change, anybody?

  7. Another thing to think about and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that '37 was the first year that Ford did the "turret style" roof with no hole covered with fabric. I've read that he didn't have a press large enough before then to form a single piece of metal for a roof and he also clung to the thought that the opening and covering helped diminish any "drumming effect" that a full metal greenhouse may have created. Maybe he just wanted to show off his new press my making numerous different rooflines!:D:D

I think that is the best style 37 that was made

  9. ...I can appreciate your thoughts, but the Standard Flatback Sedan is my all-time fav. It's the one year probably that I prefer the Sedan over a Coupe. Weird, I know.

Pretty sure that is the same roof that ended up on my 40 Merc which makes it the perfect one to chop. :D

  11. ...WOW! That's interesting.

But I thought people were smaller back then? Oh wait… IMG_4512.jpeg He’d fit on a package tray no problem.

not disputing the model name, but in design it looks like a fore-runner of the late '40 early '50 "business mens coupe". i think Plymouth, Dodge, & Chevy, had them too"

the extra space was purported to give room for salemens sample cases.

i say they'd be great for haulin' 'shine.

  22. '37 was the first year that Ford coupes and sedans had a full steel roof and no wood in the body structure/

We went to the Murdo SD museum about this time last year. Still going strong then after Dave's passing.

Edit: I just checked their website and seems business as usual.

First year for the all steel roof.
First year for the one piece hood.
First year for the headlights in the fenders.

'37 was a year of a lot of firsts and lasts:

First year clamshell type opening hood, headlights not stand-mounted, solid roof (coupe / sedan), split windshield, trunk mounted spare.

Last year tail lights on stands

I'm sure there are plenty of others, not counting engine / trans spec's and such, but that's beyond my pay grade!

  27. In my mind a "business coupe" had front seating only. The rear cabin area had no seating and was minimally finished for storing sales and business materials. The body work tended to have little or no bright moldings.

The same body with the same interior dimensions with a shallow bench seat or folding jump seats would have been the "club coupe". It might have also had more exterior chrome trim to dress it up a bit and maybe a more deluxe interior.

I used to stop in at Murdo yearly when traveling on I-90 to and from the air show in Oshkosh Wisconsin. Dave Giesler was a character that was amazing!
Sad to hear of his passing.
Glad that the Museum is still operating!
    Thanks from Dennis.

  29. That’s a prime candidate for a chop.
Lean and move the c pillar foward and eliminate the qtr window.
    A 37 3 window.
    Lean the b pillar foward/reshaped like a 35/6 3 window

    I’d drive it
