    Equal-size wheels and a rake:

I think these things are cool in their weird ugliness, but this is not what anyone is trying to achieve with a hot rod. All the visual weight is on the front wheels - which can indeed create the illusion, or rather suggestion, that the front wheels are bigger than the rears. In this case it's appropriate because the car is all about the front wheels. The rear wheels are just keeping the back of the car from dragging on the road, and nothing more.

On a hot rod the rear wheels are where the action is. The fronts are for "aim"; the rears are for "fire". They want due emphasis; and when there is a rake putting visual weight on the front wheels the emphasis must be all the more intense. Hence bigs and littles.

My point all along: same-diameter tyres can work on a hot rod as long as you lose the rake.

By contrast, here is an Austin Seven special running what looks like 19" front wheels and 16" rear wheels, with equal-diameter tyres of which the rears are wider than the fronts:

Note the level stance. Though it came about through purely practical considerations the look works as a performance-oriented look.

Then, of course, there are duallies ...

For my Model A Tudor on Deuce rails I am thinking of 7.50x16's for the rear and 5.0x16's for the front. I'm shooting for a late 40's style.

P.S: There is no life without Bigs N Littles.

So when did rotating tires become a necessity on a hot rod? :D
