I am looking for a new project that is a little "off the wall". I almost picked up a 62 Buick Special wagon a few weeks ago, but that didnt pan out. I ran across this, a 65 Studebaker "Wagonaire", but not sure about the lines on this beast. What do you guys think?

That rules! The only change I'd make is a very slight chop, with the roof tapering to the rear instead of being wedge shaped like it is now... echo: Sliding roof ROCKS!

    62 buick wagon?

My mom had one when I was a kid (yeah, back in 62) and if I could find one, I would buy it so fast. Cool car (both the buick and the stude.

  5. It'd look a whole lot better in my driveway!! That wagon is cool!! I dig the sliding roof and when was the last time you saw one? Wheels is about I think it needs to looks good. A scallop and flake job would help too. And those funky tailights!!

But then again, I have '62 Rambler American wagon, so what do I know?

Very cool wagon, it is like a retro envoy or what ever the new SUV is that GM is building that the roof slide forward in.

  9. My neighbor has one of those his wife drives everyday. The chassis is is the same as they were in the 50s, kingpins, heavy steering linkage, etc; obsolete by the 1960s. His came with a 283 industrial i.e. heavy counterweights on the crank, beefy rods, designed to run for months at a time. He is "The" Studebaker expert in the neighborhood, he explained to me that when Studebaker moved to Canada, thier upper management decided to purchase assembled motors from GMs industrial division because it cost less than to continue to maintain the tooling in the Studebaker engine Division. Still a pretty innovative car for its time. Cool find, Ill take it..

Did you even have to ask? Kind of a bonehead question! Crome looks decent, body looks pretty straight, sliding roof (can't beat that).

Keep the stance. Give it a good mill that makes it a sleeper and flake the crap out of that cool roof! Last get some cool 60's hubcaps and drive baby, drive!!!

You can make a silk purse out of sow's ear...using a little restraint and some design work...shoot pix of it and get out the colored markers...

The wagon is kool, otherwise why would GMC steal the idea for their surburban?

Studey was always ahead of its time...and besides, there's not too many of them left around...and that represents individuality!

    Long live Studebakers!

can someone photoshop the grill and headlight doors to be the same color as the body? to me it looks like way too much chrome all at one spot.

or maybe make the headlight doors body color and half of the grill bars (leave either the horizontal bars chrome or the vertical bars chrome).

to further expound, i like the car overall. the areas that might warrant changing (for me) would be the taillights, the gas cap, and the grill area.

the sliding roof is the home run on this car.

maybe turn it into a 2-door? or a 3-door ala 70's suburbans (one left door and two right side doors)?

That sucker doesn't need much to look sweet. I don't think I'd mess with the doors on it...unless ya chop it too. The extra doors actually make it flow better with that tall ass roof.

I'd shave it up add some wheels and drive the hell out of it.

just make sure the roof channels, floor, etc. aren't rusty as hell!

but it's cool, it that "well she's kind of an ugly redhead, but she's still a redhead so what the hell!" way.:D but i grew up with studebakers since i was a baby so...

i think the perfect wheel for that car would be Fenton Hawk's, would compliment the sharp lines of the wagon well, as well as be about as "correct" as you could get, the cheap bastards that would buy something like a studebaker would probably buy their wheels at a department store!:D really though, silver flake roof, dark metallic body color, some 60's mag wheels, fenton, radir, hurst(haha!) and you'd be set.

Doesn't someone else on here have a wagon like that? Barnett maybe? I think it was green, too.

Fenton flat spokes and a stereo, doesn't need anything after that.

I would completely scrap the grill and headlight treatment. It ruins the an otherwise decent looking car. Door pulls, mesh, hidden headlights... anything just scrap that shit that belongs there.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

The two things that are kinda bugging me are the front grill, and the ultra tall roof line. The grill reminded me of an english Ford for some reason. As far as the tall roof, simply lowering the car all around may help the look of that.

The good thing is that (as someone had already posted) it has a 283 Chevy from the factory. Which means it may be fun to put my big block in there, or at the very least, build a mean small block for it.

Ya, that is the one thing Im worried about. I wonder about water getting in through that sliding roof......

The owner is claiming that the floors and rockers are good.

I guess the bottom of the tailgate is rusted, but that is supposed to be it.

Do the rootbeer metalflake if thats what you want, and a shoebox or later 50's Ford style faux woodgrain in the side and tailgate.
