Pharoah: "Whut color?"
Me: "Black....."
Pharoah, visibly excited: "Whut color flames?"
Me, now annoyed: "Flames??? Why would I want a 'Fire Truck'?"

Stumbled across this in an old film covering the KCTA drags held at the Edna, KS airport in 1954...so cool...

 

I did the flames on my old 32 drag racing truck after I put it back on the street. Now owned by Scot Hammon.

Hello,

Ever since I experimented with drawing flames in elementary school, junior high school and in high school, I have tried to make the skill set so I could actually do on one a real hot rod. I tried, but it just looked awful. Then I told myself that I had to practice and get the skills better.

So, over the years I drew flames on everything from school notebooks, college test books and even on table tops at our local Romano’s Macaroni Grill Restaurant. They encourage customers to draw with crayons on the paper table covering after the waitress does her fancy upside down name in multiple crayons.

People did stare at what I drew, but I always got a laugh from our granddaughter when another set of flames appeared mysteriously on paper. Grandpa and flames go together like peanut butter and jam. Ha!

I sent this drawing to our granddaughter on Halloween this past year as a Happy Halloween Card. She had no idea what the car in the drawing was until I explained what it is/was. The color combination fit right into the Halloween theme at her house.

She remembers that I actually drew some flames on her tennis shoes with permanent red marker pens. That got a mean look and gentle scolding from her parents towards me. So, new white shoes were the answer. But, in my drawings, the cars are always a little off, and my flames seem to be getting better on some days.
