I paid money for a torch , welder, a good set of body tools and a mill, now from there i can make anything i want, if i ever wanted a ardun powered flattie ridler winner, i'll just cast up some heads steal some street signs for sheet tin and go from there. Time is cheap, and raw materials are damn near free
Mowogler hit on something I was thinking about my in-laws. Having a hobby, I feel, is important for stress release for both yourself and those around you. My in-laws were dairy farmers, that's all they did for over 35 years of their marriage. Whenever they saw someone spending money on a hobby they thought it was wasted time, and more important to them, money. You can guess what they thought about my truck hobby. They retired from farming about eight years ago which left them with a whole bunch of time on their hands. Time they used to hang around us, which wouldn't be all that bad but they are very opinionated people and don't hesitate to tell how you should run your life. I can ignore their interloping and blow them off but my wife has a hard time to resist them. If they had a hobby they could busy themselves with the hobby and leave us alone.
I can't afford to finish anything, but i am still trying. My ultimate justification, is that most people have a hobby, be it camping , trips, collectibles, etc. For most people, the money is gone. My cars are a worst case savings account. My sister has travelled the world, but has nothing to show for her money but pictures. My Cars are still here, and getting more valuable as time goes by, as long as i maintain them in current or better condition.
