Can you ID this axle and spindles?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Adam M., Jul 5, 2010.

  1. I bought this axle at a swapmeet this summer. The guy said his dad built hot rods, and this was left after he passed away. Its approx. 42" center to center on the spring perch bolts and around 52" on the king pins. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

He Also had is labeled for a Model A but it seems pretty wide for that

Looks like a '37-41 ford axle. Not sure on the spindles?

The beam is 37 up because of the short distance from perch hole to king pin. Not much room for a good drop like 33-36 beams.

37 to 41 uses a round back spindle, so I's assume those spindles are 42-48...but I've never owned a square backed spindle to compare.

  7. Well its wider then a 41 Merc Car axle that I have and the Merc has no drop. Would this axle have a factory drop or is it modified? Thanks Again

Your beam has a stock drop from Ford.

Axle is either 37-41 or 42-48.
Spindles do not appear to be Ford.

  10. I agree. Those stub axles are not Ford items. Closely compare them with the pics in the thread below. The king pin as exposed top and bottom is not the same as the Ford item either.
