What of the great things about old Floyd Clymer books is that he'll throw in little side stories, amazing facts and quiz sections.

Here's a fun one old Floyd posed..... Name 8 cars that share the same name as a U.S. President.....

    I'll start with two:

    1) The east one.... Lincoln

    #2) Jackson

By the way-- in history there have been over 2200 car companies that have existed at one time or another in the US. Most of them came along in the early boom. Thus, you might be able to find a car named after you.

By the way-- Floyd just posed the question. He didn't give the answer..... so, i can't name the eight yet myself :)

Do you mean specifically cars named AFTER Presidents or cars that happen to share names with Presidents?

Try either. Then the HAMB can bicker like girls over whether or not "Jackson" was really named after President Jackson, or just Jackson, Michigan. But then again, maybe Jackson, MI was named after the president :D

Funny because i thought Lincoln was the easiest. I forgot about Ford. That said, i think Floyd posed the question before Gerald Ford was president-- which would mean there would be NINE to name nowadays.....

There was a car called a GRANT. I had the chance to buy the remians of one years ago, but I thought it too far gone.
They were made in Findlay Ohio in the teens and early 20's.

Roosevelt, by Marmon. They were named after Teddy Roosevelt and even pictured his image on the radiator, I think. Lowest priced straight-eight in America at the time, if I recall correctly. A friend of mine was restoring one with his dad - sadly, we've lost touch.

Thanks for another good post! Your bio on Floyd Clymer was great, many new members in the hobby don't know how big an effect he had on the hobby. Without a list of presidents the following come to mind Washington, Lincoln, Ford, Carter, Cleveland, Johnson, Roosevelt, Grant, Monrow (one won INDY) and Jefferson.

Ben Franklin was NEVER president, but I'll give you credit for Jefferson Davis, sice there were cars made with both his first and last names. He must feel good knowing there were Lee, Jackson and Stewart automobiles. Ever notice how many people are into cars and Civil War history?

Henry J. Kaiser .....who almost threw his hat into the ring for the presidential race somewhere around WW II.

    Close, but no cigar.

Damn, why does Clinton keep turning up?

Nice try, but Ike hadn't even entered West Point in 1908. In fact, he didn't graduate high school until 1909. ;)
