Just came across this on FB marketplace. Hard to tell if the aluminum is part of it, or just slides on.
The stainless band holds the bakelite top onto the bottom aluminum housing. Cut the band and the top and guts come out including oil. Clean up the aluminum and a modern coil will drop in, add a little silicone to keep it there. I've done several similar coils with no problem ; but guess there is always a chance of one that won't fit a new coil.
