Yes, You can drop a 30-31 body right down on a fendered, boarded and aproned 28-29 chassis...BUT You have to use the 30-31 radiator and hood unles you're going hoodless in which case the shorter 28-29 radiator will work fine. The opposite is also true, you can drop a 28-29 body down on a fendered, boarded and aproned 30-31 chassis...BUT you have to use the 28-29 radiator even if you're running hoodless cause the radiator will be taller than the cowl. The chassis all are 100 1/4" wheelbase and the rear fenders have the same curvature, the rest just lay on the frame and don't interface with the body.
Beautiful truck! Being from Limey Land I'll bet you ride around biting lime wedges just to get the shit eating grin off your face whilst herding that thing down the road. Nice! Nice! Nice!
Thanks guys, I like the 28/29 fenders as they look better. I've got a line on nice 30 body. I want to convert it into a sedan delivery. Thanks, Steve
I put 28/29 fenders on my '31 tudor many years ago. I always have liked 28/29 fronts better than the 30/31. The way they swoop down quicker behind the tire is a nicer look to me.
Oh no it aint mine , you need to check out the The Alexander bros and this was their shop truck which was "The Grasshopper" .
Don't forget you must use the year set, 28-29 or 30-31, runningboard splash aprons and boards to match the fenders you use. You can use the diamond-stamped pickup runningboards on cars if you wish.
We did this in 79. Use the 29 frt. fenders and aprons, cut and reshape your rears. Always thought the 28-29s were swoopier looking.
Didn't Ford use some mixture of year fenders during the transition from 29 to 30. I am pretty sure Ive seen at least model A closed cab pickups with late fenders on early bodies. I figured it was just another way Henry was running his parts out. Similar to model T doors on model A pickups.
29-29 fronts will require a little work along the hood sides to fit a 3031 hood grill shell, have to leave off the sill plate that 28-9 used and re-position the holes for the front hood latch. The radiator splash apron will require re-work as well, 28-9 is shorter but wider with a different rad cut out. Probably easier to make from scratch to fit the combination. Going to make mine with a 30-31 rad cut out but fitting the frame rails like a 28-9 and not as tall as either. Canuck
