Can you ruin a pump in a 700R4 by trial mount without converter?

  1. WAIT A MINUTE!

    HOLD YOUR HORSES!

Could this be a misunderstanding of the exact wording?

If your friend said it would hurt to try the fitment without a converter on the front of the trans he is WRONG.

If he really meant that you could hurt the front pump if you tried to check the fit without the converter being SEATED correctly in the pump, HE IS RIGHT!

Could you have misunderstood his words?

If the converter is on the shaft, IT MUST BE SEATED CORRECTLY or your friend could indeed find some damage to the pump.

If you or he misunderstood, and the trans is checked for fit without the converter being on the shaft, then no harm done.

If the converter was on the shaft but not seated - possible pump damage indeed.

Maybe it was a misunderstanding of the correct language.

Did you misunderstand his wording, did he misunderstand what you described?

Maybe he thought you said you didn't SEAT the converter? That means a completely different thing...

DID you seal ALL the holes ofthe****** INCLUDING were the converter enters the pump?
DO you have a lot of **** in the air from grinders etc.?
DID you keep the area clean while fitting?

Dirt inside is a ******'s WORST enemy (besides a lead foot, that is). Scoring the internal pump surfaces leads to lower fluid pressures internally allowing clutch pack slippage and that means early ****** failure.

If you kept it sealed and kept things clean so you did not get the ****** contaminated by **** getting inside then you should be fine.
