My latest video on YouTube has received quite a few views within the first week. Has anyone else run aviation gasoline in your old Ford? I am surprised at all of the reactions and responses. Definitely more octane than I need for my mostly stock, 9.0 to 1 compression Y Block, but I will have to say the experiment was fun and enjoyable.
Interesting video Dan, I have not tried running Av Gas but I have a friend that flew airplanes and owned several hot rods as well as his airplanes. His house was in a community where all the houses have hangers and taxi ways to the airport runways. He ran nothing but Av Gas in all his hot rods for at least the 20 years I knew him and he very much concurred with your findings. His hot rods ranged from a Rochester FI in a 32 ford to a Flathead V8 in a 37 Ford pickup. He just flatly stated the Av Gas never went bad and never caused him any issues with his cars. I run 92 octane non ethanol premium in my old cars with carburetors, it cost $4.49 per gallon here at the VP station out of the pump. They also sell some very expensive race gas as well.
Back in the 60s, when the only soldiers who had cars were draftees, I had a friend with a 390 Ford Galaxie. We were ***igned to an aviation unit and had access to the fuel trucks in the motor pool. Many a gallon of 115/145 went through that 390.
I was a common practice here in Anderson,South Carolina, in fact most of the guys in the upstate area that were street racers used aviation fuel back in the 60's. HRP
