I have seen failed compression fittings on both brake lines, and diesel injection lines.

There's always the guy who says "I do that all the time" and thinks because he gets away with it, its o.k., well.....it's not. If you want to kill or injure yourself, alls fair, but if you're driving on the same roads as everyone else....fix it properly, build it properly. Take the line out and make a new one.

Why not? They actually make then especially for brake lines.

You all are aware that there is a difference between the compression fittings that you buy at the hardware store and those that are made for high pressure situations correct?

  4. And I hope that all here have a sense of pride in worksmanship that would preclude ever using such a bodge in anything other than an emergency Sunday evening get home situation.

  5. Actually seeing some of the questions and posts on here in the last couple of years I have to say something that some may find very offensive, the bulk of the gawd knows how many registered users here don't have sense enough to pour piss out of a boot.

That said there is no shame in using an auto part for its intended purpose. In a prefect world everything that we ever drive would be of Ridler quality all the time. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. I am not a big fan of Gerry Rigging a car or whatever but sometimes it is a necessity.

Putting the horse before the cart? I thought that that's how you're supposed to do it? And how whe hell did the piss get in the boot to begin with?

  7. Well my silly city cousin. :) No one cares how it got there just as long as you're smart enough to pour it out. ;)

Never use compression brakes when fitting lines.

The thread is about using brake line coupled with compression fittings to repair transmission cooler lines. None of which makes any sense:
1.) Brake line is too small to use, fuel line would be a much better.
2.) Compression fittings would most likely work but make little sense as hose and clamps work fine.
3.) Normal hardware compression fitting are illegal most places for high press (brake) usage.
So, it is sort of a silly thread all the way around with a misleading ***le.

Could pour piss out of boot if you told them the instructions were on the bottom.

  15. Larry, its about taking 2 words, holding onto them literally while ignoring the surrounding words and context completely or not even reading the post. Kinda like some do with the gospel and as usual, the gospel of hot rodding too.

most people do not read the destructions first ,they ***ume they know how to do it and FuBAr it up . don't know how many simple repairs wind up being major ones by people not taking 5 minutes to get a manual or read the included destructions ... kind of like the ones who argue with you on a burnt tail light by starting at the alternator/generator and working back to it to find out its just the bulb ..

Couple of things...as was mentioned before....the OP is repairing a ****** cooler line.

    so..

1....the line off an auto ****** that run to the radiator, or to a cooler, are the same as brake lines......some may only think brake lines are 3/16th...well...look again (psst, they make them larger in diameter...pray tell)

2...I'd ***ume the high pressure compression fitting being mentioned, are similar to DOT air line fittings used for all air brake/etc, large truck apps, where an insert tube is in place, and the compression fitting "crimps/compresses" to the inner tubing.

3...why the heck don't posters read through the darn post instead of responding to the ***le of the post?

Geesh, I've never seen an add-on ****** cooler connected with nothing more than a hose clamp from the rubber to the metal line (brake line many would say, cause ya sure can't go out and ask for steel ****** line).

Anyway...I thought I needed to get into the mix here as well;)

  18. A week or so ago, had a customer show up, wanted an engine code read. Was something to do with purge flow...he asked what that was, I didn't know exactly. Suggested a service manual. He then said: "You mean I have to buy a book and READ it??"

It has to do with shop's labour, I think. People take their car in, hear what the problem is, and how much it'll take to fix it.
Two thoughts race to be first in their little minds:
    A) That's too much money.
    B) That can't be THAT hard...
    Both thoughts are wrong.
