    Hi guys

I want some sheet metal from 57-60 Mercury pickups.

Where are the best junkyards? Windsor? Toronto?

  3. Best junkyards in Ontario can be found in... 1975.

Not a lot of yards left, and fewer with interesting sheet metal. Maybe someone else has better knowledge than me. You might have better luck in Alberta, not as much rust, still some trucks around.

You could try the flea market at barrie,it is around the first weekend in june and a bigger one in the fall, mid september? look up Burls Creek park, that is the web site for the market.Big A has the right idea too,a lot of old farm trucks in Alberta, you could give Kijiji a try out there, grilles and hoods are the same on a lot of bigger trucks too. Now, I know I'm supposed to already know this (being a born 'n raised Canuck)

But aren't the only differences in the Merc and Ford trucks in the trim, interiors and tailgates? Shouldn't all the tin be the same?

Tailgates and emblems would be the only real difference. And the VIN tag, of course. I'm not aware of anything interior-wise on a Merc that wouldn't be available on a similarly-equipped Ford, since both could be had in upscale Custom Cab trim. But yes, tin should be interchangeable and a lot of it is available reproduced on the aftermarket.

I agree that the Canadian prairie is the best place to find these roaming wild. A guy I work with has a friend who just picked up a nice example of a '57 M250 locally. V8 truck, all glass and emblems intact, very little rust, and all for the low, low price of free...

Yup. But if you get as far west as the lower Fraser Valley, you've gone too far, turn back...:p

Barrie flea market definitely is not the place to look for old truck parts. The promotor has run this event right into the ground, allowing all kinds of non automotive vendors and stuff that is absolute junk. All that is there now is socks, t shirts, towels for your kitchen and maybe the odd car part. Lots of trucks in Alberta and the climate there is drier which means the trucks and truck parts are in really nice condition to begin with.

Your chances in Ontario are virtually nil. We are too busy cultivating dandelions and making smores.
