I have a what I hope is an easy problem to fix, but I do not know the answer. I have 1953 Mercury that still has the flathead in it. The water pumps were not working on it, so I went to replace them, beginning with the driver side. I did not grasp that the motor mounts were on the water pump. I took out the four face bolts and the motor dropped a couple of inches as it was not supported. I have tried jacking the motor back up after supporting it and removing the other bolts from the passenger side waterpump/motor mount. The problem I am having is the car goes up with the motor. I have looked under the car and see no other connection points. Can someone tell me what this old fool is missing?

You probably need to lift it some more, but carefully. The car lifting is the suspension decompressing. But do check that the engine hasn't somehow got hung up on the frame when it dropped.

  3. Yeah x2 on lifting some more. These early engines are HEAVY.
