I try to clean the shop twice a week, sweep and shop vac. There is overspray every where. I dont care and it's not finished yet anyway. The other side will someday be a downdraft booth. It's all plumbed up and just needs to get finished. I started building cars in the garage in the house but made everyone in the house sick after spraying paint. It took me many years of work to build my shop all by my self but now I can paint again. Oh ya, worked my ass off on it today. Getting ready to spray the frame! Can't wait.....

  8. Man those polished parts have come out like liquid, I bet you get a real good sense of satisfaction after the colour goes on.

Wet sanded all day, guna flip the frame over in the morning and finish sanding. Then a coat of sealer before paint.

After spraying dark gray sealer we shot some color!

My buddy Don shot the large spots with the big gun and I hit all the tight spots with a small gun.

The clear was messy stuff! It was very hard to hit all the small tight spots without running. I'm still sticky.

Now I'm going to let it sit over the weekend and dry. I'm going to sleep for 12 hours now!

    Awesome build, superb detailing and workmanship. Only 2 things catch my eye, but who cares, it isn't me right? But here goes;

    1. That v-notch taken out of the bone and rewelded.....how strong/safe is that? Will it withstand the tension/compression/lateral forces placed on it?
    2. The color. That copperish hue screams 2009. For such a traditional type build, I expected a much more 'traditional' color. But color is so personal, whatever floats your boat.

Again, don't take this the wrong way, I wish I had 1/10th the skill you have! Lovin this thread, can't wait for the next episode! :)

I take my welding very seriously, from the bone you spoke of the the pitman arm I cut up into three pieces and welded back together. My life and those around me are at stake. I know this and believe me, the welds will hold. You asked a good question "how strong/safe is that?" This car will be as strong as I can make it, but it will never be safe. It's a hot rod, not a Volvo. I dig the color. Color is a very personal deal, I just don't like black or red. I drove to every car lot in town and looked at all the colors in the sun shine. I don't like Mitsubishi, but that 2009 rotor glow kicks ass! Sorry, I know it's not traditional. Thank you Antny for your questions and no, I didn't take it the wrong way. Thanks.

Ahem....isn' that the color of the restored Lloyd Baken coupe??? yeah it's not 2009 Mitsu color right:D:D:D.

What ever it is, it looks great. Can't wait to see the body shot in the same color. Not sure if I missed this but what is your choice for rolling stock???

Exactly. That's why I asked. I had a friend do something similar, welded it up good then ground the weld to make it purdy. I'll make the story short; he only lost an arm in the accident. It coulda been way worse.

Totally agree on the color being a personal thing. No need to apologize, if you dig it, that's ALL that matters.

Keep posting pix, I'm lovin this thread/your work.

    :)

Like you say colour is in the eye of the owner, personally I think it is a great choice. I have been enjoying your thread, thanks for taking the time to share. The car will look awesome when you are finished:D

God I can't wait to see this car all buttoned up! Great job and keep the updates coming. If anyone gives you crap about the 'glass body, be sure to ask them what they rolled up in, I bet it was a Honda or a Toyota! Keep on going, your work is amazing and the finished product is going to reflect your attention to details!

Considering such a great build of good taste and technical skill, the question that begs to be asked is..who taught you the things you know? How did you come by these skills? How did you learn?

I have no training and was taught by no one. It's in my blood, I'm a Gallentine. My family has been hot rodding from the beginning. My Grandfather is 90 and still drives! That's him racing on the beach at Daytona back in the day in my avatar. (He is #5)
[IMG]My father left when I was 11, that set me back a few years. I'm 40 now and started at 15, that's 25 years of trial and error. I have learned a little and bought a few tools every year. I hooked up with my father shortly before his death a few years ago and all we talked about was this coupe I'm building now. Sure do miss him.

Thanks Lorodz, After I picked the color I saw this roadster in a mag and tracked down the own. He told me the color was a mixture that his painter came up with. It will give you an idea what my coupe will look like. I really like the cream firewall.
