Great to see you back at it. I'm building a similar 5 window and am enjoying the thread.
    Keep posting.
All you guys together couldn't roll the frame out of the garage to make it easier to set the body on?

I was opposed to fiberglass untill I started driving trucks. My mack had not just the the hood but the doors were glass. think they were weak? I've seen alot of aluminum doors with cracked rails and my mack glass doors never cracked and stayed solid. I even had another semi sideswipe me hard enough to fold my mirrors flat against the door and the mirror mounts never got so much as a crack (the mirrors bolt right to the door). I'd want a rollbar and some side intrusion protection but your glass coup prolly will be a good solid ride for you

HotTurkey, I think a LOT of guys are square BEHIND you. They are not MAKING anymore of the originals. That was 3/4-century ago! What survives is often FAIR BUT PROHIBITIVE. They 'glass ones look good enough, I've gone up at shows & just pecked in a panel with my middle knucked (no nails, please!) to HEAR if it was steel or fibreglass.

Sweat or no, I say stay the course. Given that you have a family, I think you ALL are DOOMED to have some FUN with that coupe !!!!!!!!!

I know you can buy a steel body from time to time if you have the money but why let money stop you from having what you want?

That is going to be one cool looking ride. As for the glass against steel debate living in the UK the glass thing has been happening for years. Most of the Low Flyers cars were glass, steel getting more popular over here now. But hey saving 20k by buying a glass body buys a lot of parts.
I've got a pinto powered 5 window with tin parts in primer, it's suprising the number of people who have to tap it because they think its steel. It gets used as a daily and left outside all year round not rot problems.
keep going the way your going and see how many people you can convince its tin.

Yes that is true. But I am more amazed with how clean his garage is after working.
I have to lose a day just to clean it out. Possibly due to two projects going at once...but I don't think so.

I think that glass is fine, you should always build a car to make yourself happy. Don't worry what anyone things. Keep up the great work!

I'd rather drive a RUBBER car than pay someone $10,000 for a top chop.
    (and I have a torch!)

  17. Great thread. Wish I had found it earlier. My roadster is glass. And it is as real a 32 as I am ever going to get.

If it wasn't for the glass rods there prolly wouldn't be any repop frames or aftermarket steelies

Getting that 302 in there was a bitch. After paint, it's going in first! Got some issues with the firewall rubbing a hair, easy fix. Cut a hole in the floor for the shifter and found out there's no room for the gas pedal. Need to rework the floor and trans hump a bit. Oh well, time to itch some more.

I too used to think that ALL 1932 3W Fords built back in 1932 were made by Murray Body Company. But according the David G. Rehor ... well known 1932 Ford authority ... some were made in Canada ... by Canadian Top and Body Company. This is clearly stated in his V8 Ford club book on page 11-45.

    :) :D

  27. Randy (Deuce Roadster), Wow! ... I did not know that.

Now I'm really hoping Santa will be putting the hardbound 2 volume set in my stocking:

    The 1932 Ford Book - Hardbound - Vol 1 & 2 ($129.95).jpg

(I've been a very good boy this year! :))

All that said, it still doesn't excuse the mis-information on the Garlits Museum sign:

    Garlits 32 3wd Sign.jpg

... and now back to your regularly scheduled program ... Hot Turkey, your "3 winder" is looking great! ... thanks for keeping us updated with your progress.
