Maybe some Hambers from "Down Under" can chime in on this. I have a friend who wants to import a '50 Chopped Shoebox into Australia but the shippers are telling him that modified cars are being rejected by the inspectors for things as small as aftermarket wheels. All mods on cars had to be done prior to the late 80's and proof has to be presented. This goes for any year vehicle, which doesnt make sense to me. I thought we had rediculous vehicle restrictions in California, but nothing lke this. Can anyone further enlighten me on this. I'm just going by what he's telling me but I told him I'd get some comments. Thank you!
I would suggest to your friend to approach it from another angle. Import a stock shoebox and then customize it.
check out this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5559152#post5559152 also message Kustom linez. He seems to know alot about whats going on. I snuck mine in abut 6 months before it all went down - very lucky.
what the shippers are telling your friend is correct. If its chopped and he cant prove it was done before 1989 they will reject the import approval.(no approval...no import) it*****s.....
