I wonder if he has kept a service log on his ride? It would be nice to know what had to be done over the 60 years.
Spoke with a friend this morning who worked with this guy for several years. Has had a small block Chevy in it [several] for most of the time he has owned it.
Sure would like to have seen under the hood in the video. You guys with a good ear,did it sound like flathead or a Chevy when he started it ?
It is a Chevy. My friend that worked with Ted for 20 years said he put a 283 from a totaled 58 Chevy in 1968. Had one in it ever since.
No personal experience with this, but I've heard before that it is easier to install a SBC in '49 - 53 Ford p***enger cars than a SBF. Something to do with the front crossmember IIRC.
Not true, this makes it an EZ swap I've helped several guys on other forums do it. http://www.butchscoolstuff.com/52-53-ford-car-15-sb-ford-engine-transmission-mount-kit-2501cpb/ SBC's also have the rear mounted oil filter too close to the steering box on these Fords so exhaust routing can be a pain with a SBF you can also use Hedman 88400 headers no sweat. You will find pictures of the SBF swap in a '53 Ford on page 4 of the "FAQ Sticky"
I personally have never seen any benefit to using anything other than a Ford in a Ford. But I'm a little biased.
Ford in my 53 F100, Ford in my. 55 Sunliner, sbc in both of my 40 Fords. Like em all. In 68 I bet there were a lot more sbc's than sbf's installed in 1953 Fords.
Disappointing to hear it wasn't original, but it certainly didn't sound like a flathead when he started or drove it.
