I met the owner a few years back as we were parked together at a show. I asked when the car was chopped and some unbelievable year like 1959 or so was what I recall hearing. Also hanging with the owner (Dewitt) was his friend who used to build alot of cars around the Northern Cal area. He built alot of Sal Vega's cars and maybe even Curly's Merc? I'm pretty bad at recalling names (maybe it was Hurley). I believe he worked with Rod Powell or at least was from the same area.

DeWitt the owner just recently switched over to those hubcaps and wide whites. For a long time it had Vette aluminum wheels. I believe that car is sitting on a corvette chassis.

  2. I think you're right. It's hard to tell by this crappy pic from the '05 or '06 Rod and Custom show, but it looks like Hurley Diaz in the "Body" section of the sign.

49Ratfink...that pic of Spring St. is killer!!

If anyone has a profile pic of this car, please post it. It's one of the few coupe chops that make me want to keep my quarter windows,,,

  3. If you want something to use for canted quads that is cheap, look into the 65-69 Corvair headlights, if you use the inner points to go vertical, and switch them side to side, when you cant the bottoms inward. The points make a nice peak in the tops of the fenders and when the headlights are in the right planes, the bezel is angled inward toward the center, and leaning forward... I saw a guy use them in a '56 Ford he never finished, but it worked really well. If you grab the whole nose, the headlights have their own bucket to keep the weather off of them too.

I just won a set of the corvair headlight assembly's on ebay. great price compared to lincoln or chrysler. They should work just fine. Thanks for all the great pics.

Old thread, but saw this car at a local show and was drawn to it. Probably due to the recent thread. LOL. No drama intended or allowed. Anyway, for the canted quad fans, enjoy....

Wow, that looks like it came right out of the AMT '50 Ford model box with the custom styline parts. Even the DeSoto grille is in that box! Cool car.
