Gracie: Yep, I remember the original Treasure House and how there was a Saturday morning Treasure House. That was when the Captain had to use makeup to look old. My sister and I watched him, Howdy Doody, Pinky Lee (remember him?), and other early kid's shows on a Packard Bell set that my uncle who was a TV technician got our parents a good deal on and then came over and repaired it when we had trouble. The Captain and his friends were cool. I can still hear the theme music to his show. Thanks Captain for helping to guide me in my early years.... and Godspeed!
All us grown types remembering when. Loved Capt K, and Mr. Greenjeans. Don't care if the Capt. was a Marine etc., he made MY young life happier. R.I.P. Thanks for the memories.
Website is up today... Urban Legends - Capt Kangaroo This doesn't take anything away from Keeshan...just trying to dispel the Lee Marvin portion.
That was the first TV show I can remember watching. He made lots of kids happy in his life time including me. I loved when he prended to walk down stairs. And MR Greenjeans ruled for sure. He will live on in the hearts of all the kids he touched.
I grew up with the Captain and Mr.Rogers.....real bummer. Next thing you know Big Birds gonna bite it..........our prayers go out to his family.
Man, all the good ones are leaving us...too soon. I remember watching that show when I was a kid. Mom would put it on to stop bickering between all four of her pain-in-the-ass kids. It's a sad time indeed.
I watched the Captain every morning while getting ready for school. My favorite was Train day when they had the Lionel layout set up, and Grandfather Clock. My wife still has her Schwinn "Hollywood" bike that the Captain sold on the show. I'm embarrassed to say I wasn't aware He was still around. He was a good guy.
Man, that stinks. The Captain was a staple when I was a young'n. I always liked Mr. Moose for some reason. Not that it really matters, but Mr. Green Jeans didn't actually wear green jeans until they started broadcasting in color.
Capt Kangaroo, Mr Rogers? you're all a bunch of kids. how about Cecil and Beanie, Capt Jet (he was a neighbor had a brand new 55 Buick Century Convertable with factory stick) or Sheriff John.
Captain Kangaroo, Soapy Sales, Howdy Doody, Micky Mouse Club, Bozo the clown, and of course, Shari Lewis & Lambchop. (Probably my first woody)! There are no Bozos on this bus!...
Soupy sales was the best!! had a eye chart that had letters on it & 1 was "K" & there was a "F" he would point to the F & the other guy would say "K" Soupy would say " Its F" they would argue & do this a few times & soupy would say 'How come everytime i see "F" you see K".Pretty risky***** for the late 50's early 60's The Cap'n was always a kid, same with Mr.Rogers, they would bring themselfs down to a kids level rather then talk over kids heads!! RIP JimV
