I'm leaving this forsaken cold-ass N.E. Wisconsin weather for San Diego the week of the 14th for some R&R. Are there any automotive points of interest in S.D. or the surrounding areas that are worth checking out, like cruise spots, mom and pop drive-inns, shops, oriental massage parlors :D, etc? This would give the men somewhere to go in our sweet rental mini-van while the women go buy clothes they'll never wear. If there are any worth checking out let me know the name and location if possible. Thanks.

Go to Hodad's for a meal in Ocean beach. The best burgers in the world just ask Mike the owner.I live about 150 miles away from San Diego so can't help on points of interest. Lots of Rod shops just open the phone book when you get in and look.

It's too late for the cruises, but
the auto museum in Balboa Park http://www.sdautomuseum.info/
Symbolic Motors in La Jolla http://www.symbolicmotors.com/
    Hot rod shops all over,
    Simpson's nursery in Jamul http://www.simpsonsnursery.com/

TJ is just south too. It's not as safe as it was, but if you can get a local to take you, it might be worth a side trip. If you go North, you could do a day trip to the Petersen and the NHRA museum in LA and tell the folks back home you lived thru LA traffic!

    There is also http://www.surfmuseum.org/

Driving out to the lighthouse on the tip of Point Loma is interesting.

Driving up the 101 is something great, I'd start in Pacfic Beach and go up through LaJolla, up to Oceanside. Angelo's burger joints are along there.

BTW, I'm in AZ now, but hopefully there will be some locals jumping on here too.

Tha Alibi is a good place to hang out.

Sat Dec 12th if it doesn't rain.

I would say the USS MIDWAY is a awesome idea. Last time I was on the MIDWAY was back in the Guld War. I got a cat shot off the forward cat.
Walked back aboard for New Years...WOW I was very impressed. You might want to take the kids.

If you're going to check out the Midway, save some time for this:

    www.sdmaritime.org

The engineroom on the Berkley is pretty sweet.

    And if you want beer:

They have a buttload of Belgian beer, some on tap. Shitpile of microbrew on tap. Parking lot sucks goatballs but I still go down there every Thursday night.

Oh... it's cold right now. Like low 50's. :p
