My sister and B-I-L have a 1969 Jaguar XKE. It has been in various stages of undress for the last 13 years. He got to drive it last Friday for the first time in those 13 years after living in various shops and storage. It's a very nice driver quality car. And he was quite happy as evidenced by the **** eating grin on his face. (who can blame him?)

They moved the car from CT to Maine recently to a facility that stores the car, keeps it fresh and provides a car club environment and amenities. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the facility including the owner's beautiful 16 cars.

I won't post the name of the place as they had security concerns which I tend to agree with. They do not allow cameras. But the business model is interesting. We figured they are not making a killing but certainly breaking even at a minimum and the owner has a nice place to keep his collection.

Turns out there are a few of these places in the area. I never knew such a thing existed. It's not cheap at 300 bucks a month but certainly convenient and way nicer than putting your cl***ic in Uncle Ned's shed.

  2. I once saw plans for a controlled environment storage building that I would build if I had a vehicle worthy of the expense. It was small, just large enough for the vehicle with caulking/weatherstripping at every possible place a bug could crawl in or out. It had a system to allow atmospheric pressure changes without any chance for humidity to enter (used a small weather balloon as a membrane) and finally it was charged with argon so mold, mildew and critters couldn't survive. The cost wasn't prohibitive with no plumbing, electrical or windows involved.
I think a few years at $300 a month would pay for it.
