I've got one made out of a '55. I love it. I didn't build it, but I would be happy to take some measurements if that would help.Mine just barely fit through the door, so don't make it to deep.

    Doc.

  3. You probably won't find any plans really. Just depends on what car parts your using, as there all different sizes.

I've got a 55 Ford wagon sitting in the yard, it's pretty much toast, But I think it will work for this. My first car was a 55 Ford, so that's why it's my choice.
I'm not worried about size as it will be going in the garage.
I prefer however, to make the couch from the front of the car, with working headlights and all.
And yes, pictures or measurements, especially of the frame work would be helpful.

  9. I built two, and two desks. There are some pics in a folder called Office on my profile. Took lots of pics along the way to do a tech one day since I found no plans when I started. I'm in a parking lot on my phone while my wife shops at the moment, so really can't help much right now. LOL when I get back to my computer I can help you with all you need.

I always wanted a car couch but it would probably end up in the garage
other than my recliner I don't have a lot of input in the house furniture.
Thats right..... I said it.... She runs the house. Dammit.
So I made a garage friendly "couch".
It folds up when not in use so it doesn't use up
too much floor space and the lights are wired to
come on with the overhead lights.
My Dachshund Gracie really likes it too.
Besides who doesn't enjoy sitting on a tailgate
and drinking a few beers before resuming on your current project. :D

    drdave,

That's great! I love the woody receptionist's desk. I want to build mine from the front of the 55 Ford, so it will probably only be a two seater.

    Thanks,

    Ralph

Since my move to Texas, you couldn't possibly imagine all the donor trucks just awaiting a date with a sawzall.:D

I know it's WAY off topic but I bought the running & driving truck for $53.
All I wanted was the tranny.
I never seem to have any good OLD stuff left for garage art.
    So I used what I had. :D

That is one of the best ideas I've seen in a while. You're going to have a lot of guys knocking this one off. Lost of uses- couch, desk, work bench. Very clever.

  22. Holy Cow, Dr. Dave! I hate office work, but with surroundings like that, damned if I wouldn't mind working there!

Wow! Those turned out great. I had no idea you had the car theme going on in your entire office; I love it. :D

    That truck box is genius!

Dr. Dave - I've been waiting to see what the office looked like done. You should post all those pics on that thread you had on the uph group. Looks great!

  25. Not much for the original thread ideas of measurements and such but some very cool ideas showing up here.

excellent post!...looks like a great idea for my work bench!

  28. Here's a pic of my "real steel" '57 Chevy couch. I like to tell folks it was an old convertible and the top was ragged, plus it had some emblems on the front fenders that said "fuel injection", so it must have had the wrong motor. Obviously, with those things wrong, it couldn't be worth much, so I cut it up and made a couch. I tell them "if it had been a '57 Ford, I would have fixed it up and driven it". The look on their face is always priceless!

The other pic is my most recent project, a "wheel chair" made from four 19-inch model A rims. It's getting sandblasted and powdercoated gloss black.

    No cents,
Great idea for the tailgate couch. I just might cut the back of the wagon off, get rid of the top, and use it for the tailgate style seat like you have.
