Today a few of my car buddies and I put on a little cruise-in/ display at a local ***isted living facility as we did last year. I choose the topic group as "Folks of Interest" because they were and are interesting. For example, a young lady of about 86 spotted my 48 Dodge and had to find out who owned it (although at first she thought it was Desoto but close enough). She came out to get a closer look as fast as her walker would go. Turns out that her Dad had once owned a dealership for Desoto in a near by town. She told me of how her and her Mother would run around all over the place in a similar car. She looked my Dodge over and over and for a time was able to go back, back to a good and happy time I trust.
I've always said that one of the best things about our hobby is sharing it with other's. You have certainly brought joy to the care facility residents by sharing your car and stories with them. Hopefully the karma gods will smile on you for your kind gesture.
In our busy lives it's often hard to make time to do something special for folk in need of a some variety in their life and needing to smile. But one day we could be in the same position and it would sure brighten up our day. Well done guys. This will sure give them something to talk about for the next few days, in what could be a very structured life.
We also did it yesterday in Hampton, Va. Our club does it quite often at Nursing Homes and senior living places. The residents really enjoy looking at the cars and remembering the "good old days". I made the comment to another of our club members that some of the folks aren't that much older than us. If we bring enjoyment to others now while we can, maybe someday, someone will do the same for us. And most of the time they feed us. Yesterday was hot dogs and Root Beer.
very Cool - remember, some day you might be in one of those living arrangements and seeing these rides would be a super joy.
Simply awesome. Thanks for sharing the event. And thanks to all you guys for sharing your cars and day with our Seniors.
