Anybody know who lost the red '40 Chevy Coupe today on US20 in Northern Ill?? We saw the fire but were stuck in traffic .. The only info we could get was that no one was injured ..The car burnt so bad that the wheels melted .....:-(... (MODS ..Please excuse if this is posted incorrectly ....) Bob...
I think I will throw the fire extinguisher back in the Old wagon this morning. I have it sitting in the kitchen.Bruce.
I was 200 feet away when we were stopped as the flames were so intense and blowing it was impossible to get around on the 2 lane. Until local fire department arrived there were a few people trying to help out with a garden hose from a nearby home but the fire was consuming the interior. The driver was a women returning home from the same run we had attended over the weekend in Galena Illinois and was uninjured, can't say the same for her car,a sad sight indeed. I didn't think it was in anyone's best interest to photograph the car or post it and won't speculate how it may have started here either.
I have 2 fire extinguishers and 2 gallons of water in the trunk of the Edsel because when I was a Boy Scout back in the '60s I remember their "Be Prepared" motto which makes a lot of sense....
Sorry ....My intent with the thread was not to sensationalize, but to try to locate the owner to verify that all was OK & they needed no further help... MODS .. This thread can be deleted at this time ... Thank You .. Bob .....
No need to be sorry Gray Ford, I don't think I.rant as addressing you. I took his post to be aimed at those who invariably come along with all the petty comments with no informative value.
Loosing a special car is always heartbreaking and I feel for the lady that lost her car, ever since Deuce Roadster's car had the engine fire I carry a big household type extinguisher in the wagon. Randy's small halon extinguisher was too small to do the job.e a ca You won't drive without insurance, why drive without a fire extinguisher. Wake up call, answer the phone. HRP
You might want to investigate the dangers of inhaling halon and pick one of the newer technology products. There are some great new extinguishers available.
tb33.3, I looked at your extinguisher on the floor, alongside that long (LaSalle?) stick, and it reminded me of a similar, albeit opposite, scenario. It was 1954, and I was with the older guys at the San Jose drags ("Little B'Ville" strip) I was looking over a cool '34 3 window drag car, the doors were open so the driver could cool off before getting push started for his next run. Bolted securely to the floor, right next to him...was the ever-present MOON 2.5 gallon tank, with its pressure pump on the left side, within reach. That 'Race Spec' sure lasted, seemed like forever before the tank was moved to the front or rear! Makes me shudder to think.
yeah Mike that would be scary. the stick/tower is from a 37 chevy truck, my dad and uncle welded to a chevy 3 speed.
That's good. I once stopped to help a motorist that had an engine fire. I had an extinguisher in the trunk of my Comet. I had trouble with the trunk key that day. By the time I got the trunk open, the other car was totally engulfed.
