Car for sale and the owner couldnt find it

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by low merc51, Aug 31, 2012.

  1. Yeah, Richard's a Mopar fan (among many other makes). The first big purchase "The Kids" made after becoming famous was a black Satelite which I'll bet he still has. Keith Black's son once took me to a warehouse/shop Richard had dedicated to restoration of 50's Mopars. Even had a sandblasting pit where they would roll the cars down into it.

Before scrap prices went crazy people generally would be more ethical. The prospect of a few hundred dollars more is enough to make people sell out their ethics. I buy stuff and forget it. somebody will mention it and then I haul it in before someone is tempted to do the wrong thing. Car freaks are cool;meth heads and ex wives are too dangerous to trust. Drag it home when you buy it so zoning can bitch you out.

I had a buddy ask me one time if I wanted to go with him to look at a 38 Chevy coupe a guy had for sell a couple hours away. I say sure. We meet the guy at a local restaurant and offer to buy him lunch. After lunch we go to the place he has the car stored and he opens the garage up and there is no car there. He says he and another guy own the car together, so he calls the other guy up. That guy says no he hasn't seen it. He goes next door and asks the guy there if he has seen anyone around the place in the past month. That guy says no. While we are at this guys garage we look inside and see two Dukes of Hazzard cars, two super birds, and 3 hemi cudas. Guy says he had been collecting them after gas prices went up in the 80s. This was about 1988. Looking through that garage made the trip worth something at least. When we left the 38 Chevy selling guy was still scratching his head. We figured his partner sold the car out from under him, and pocketed the money. Either that, or he got free lunches that way.

And just your luck it will come back covered in Billet with 20 inch wheels and a LS motor

  10. I still have those. It goes back to the day when I owned 9 cars at a clip.... I'd do a head count right after the dream. In the dream, I'd be wanting to sell or use a real nice car I had sitting on the side of the garage or something like that.

  18. I have dreams that I lose my cars downtown when its starting to get dark and all the riff raff come out. It's a nightmare!! I don't want to experience this in real life!!!

  19. The riff raff were rather tame here in the '70s, would hate to miss place it now. I heard of a guy that lost a ladder in his lounge for three months !!!!!!!! JW :)

  25. Family can't live with 'em wouldn't be alive without 'em. I had an aunt now deceased thank gawd, that when the wife and I moved to Missouri was supposed to store our stuff, while it was in her possesion she either sold or stoll everything we owned that was of value.

I hope your friend finds his car.

My oldest sister died in 2005 and I got stuck with cleaning up her places: 3 in Florida, 3 at Branson Missouri, one in Iowa, and one in Hawaii---each had several rented storage buildings and were needed because she never disposed of ANYTHING. After getting rid of her modern Mitsibishi Gallant and S10, we had on hand 4 MGB's, an MBG GT, 2 Austin Heally 3000's, MG Midget, and an Austin Sprite. We thought we were finished with the cars and was down to last storage building in Florida that was filled to the rafters with rolls (bolts) of fabric material for sewing. About a quarter of the way into the building we uncovered a back bumper and then a back end with MGB on it. That was number five and if it had been a stolen car the cops would have reached retirement without ever finding it.
