Car for sale and the owner couldnt find it

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by low merc51, Aug 31, 2012.

  1. I have bought a few at estate auctions and never went and got them. They where $5 and ten dollar vehicles. I took what was of value to me and left the rest, One was a 65 chev 4 door good body no engine . I took the powerglide ,radiator exhaust manifolds spare & jack. Also a cylinder head from a B John Deere tractor?from the trunk and never went back to get it. Did the same with a 56 mercury. I took the 4 bbbl intake and teapot holley carb and taillights from it. I wish I would have brought it home. I always wondered if the engine was a 312?

Great news, low merc! Looking forward to seeing pics.

A;long those lines, about 25 years ago I bought a 409 from a friend of mine. I paid him for it on a Friday and went to get it the next afternoon. When we got there and it was gone, I was thinking that my friend Keith was just pulling my leg and had hidden it. Come to find out, his dope-head brother had sold it for $100 while Keith was at work Saturday morning!

Glad you found it. Looking forward to the pics and hope it turns out to be as good as you hope for............

Through all of this, I can't believe no one brought up "Dude, where's my car?"............

Never saw the movie, but couldn't forget the ***le.

    Good luck!

I'll admit that I've had to play the "what shed is the part in?" game way too many times but I'm not to the point (too small of sheds) to where I have to play what shed is the car in now?" I'd imagine that it wasn't the only car that got moved from shed to shed around there though when several family members have cars stashed there.

I remember a story awhile back about a guy driving drunk coming home and parking his car in the garage. Next day, the cars not in the garage. Must be stolen. He reports it stolen and moves on with his life. Twenty or thirty years later, the little old lady who lived next door, and didn't drive, dies and her family opens the garage to clean it out. There sat the car. In his drunken state, the guy had parked his car in the wrong garage.

I had a friend in Toronto who perhaps was a little like the functioning alcoholic but maybe something a little stronger on occasion. He went to a party one night parked the car, he thought in a parking garage. Several days later he wondered where he left the car. The search was on without success.

Never reported it stolen and several years later when he moved to Boston still had not found the car. I am willing to bet it is still sitting somewhere exactly where he parked it.

so about '92 or so when my youger brother "had" to get married, he sheepishly approached me and asked if I would lend them one of my cars. I had five registered, running, insured cars at that point, so I said yes, "for a bit until you can get some money s****ed to buy her a car". So I let them use my '65 VW european spec Squarback. Well, three months went by, and I noticed they were always driving to the family business together in the morning, and I asked for my car back. My brother kinda hemmed and hawed a bit and told me that I could have it "next weekend". It came and went, and I asked again. "Another couple of days" was the answer. About a week later I informed him that I would be at their house tonight to pick it up, no ifs and or buts!
Then the truth came out - they had loaned my car to another friend (who I knew) to move with out asking me. Some how that friend had loaned it another friend, and that to yet another friend that nobody in the immediate circle knew. By the time all was said and done, my car was being p***ed around and nobody had any idea of who it belonged to! I made my brothers life a living hell trying to retrace where it had gone to, but about a week later on a Sunday morning I'm driving home from a Glendale swap down Grand avanue and there goes my car, the opposite direction! I gave chase, cornered the occupants and scared them out of the car. Called a buddy to drive it home. Nobody knew who they were, or where they got it, but it made it home. I might add that I spent the next year in and out of Phoenix city courts fixing parking tickets, as it had racked up 16 of them over the time it was gone.
Later that year my friends presented me with a milk carton with my squareback's picture on the side over some poor kid's that said, "have you seen me?"

Love those Crown Victorias. Found the data plate from my very rusty '55 in my tool box a few weeks ago, can't believe I still have it after 30+ years.

Its on the trailer very well and it is strapped it just does not show well in the picture it is setting weird because it has a flat tire on the left side!!
With that said its always nice to have a no it all around like you to criticize. Hauling old cars is not always the perfect conditions !!!!!!
