I wouldnt consider myself a "Professional" driver but I do a lot of hauling for dealerships locally. I have used ratchet straps for all my hauling and used wood deck and steel deck trailers and never had a problem. Im about to have my buddy build a 24' gooseneck for me with wood floors. His company builds gooseneck trailers up to 75k lbs and they use wood decks on most (gonna say 95%) of them

  3. If you bought the trailer and not made it usually ther is a load rating sticker near the front. take photos of your trailer before you modify it. You shuld check the laws on using chains or what not.
Kind like the ticket I got from a cop one time ... "from the sounds of your revs you had to have been going.." I fough it and won.

He may have ticketed you brother for improper load securement. Any police officer with the proper certification can do DOT inspections on commercial vehicles. Once your GVW exceeds 10,000 lbs. you are a commercial vehicle (except RV's, etc).

I see tons of guys not following proper load securement regulations. A 2" strap that reads "4000 lb rating" is not legal for 4K...that's the "breaking strength"...you need to know the "working load limit" or WWL on any securement.

You no longer can have any strap wrapped around a trailer rub rail...there are a myriad of rules that must be followed...and the DOT is doing a bang-up job of enforcing the rules in most states.

A few years ago, during the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance "Safety Week", I was pulled over for inspections FOUR times in 48 hours...three times in Texas...once in Wisconsin.

Thats good to know my friend...Yea the laws vary from State to stae but really think that the Laws are similar in about 90% of the time with your law about not having to have a plate being one of a small amount of exceptions. Good poat.

Let me tell you that with 34 years of commercial driving and 4.5 million miles under my belt I've seen almost every kind of ticket issued...I once got a speeding ticket in Nebraska for 75 in a 55 while entering the freeway from a dead stop...grossing 80K..I was still on the on-ramp!...the cop must of tought that KW had a jet engine!

The ONLY way to find the right info is to get the # of the statute that the officer said was violated....the do some research.

Anything else will get you what we have here...a lot of guesses...
