Here's a couple of books I've had for years:
These are great for "on the go" identification, facts, figures, options, etc.

    1st one is
Monstrous American Car Spotters Guide 1920-1980
    by Tad Burness
    431 pages - 10,000 illustrations
This book has tons of drawings and pictures that I don't think you'll see elsewhere.
Lots of interior and option shots.
    GREAT BOOK

    2nd one is:
Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975
    (I believe there's a pre-war edition too for 1946-down)
    John A Gunnell
    800 pages
averages 2-4 illustrations on each page
This one has lots of production figures and breakdowns of models.
Also good for option availibility and cost.

I have another similar book but no photo, it's called:
Complete Book of Collectible Cars 1940-1980
    Richard M Langworth
    383 pages
This book has plenty cars but skips some models.
It's an OK book but I wouldn't recommend it.
