Just remembering that in 1962 when that magazine came out I read just about every add in it after I had looked at the feature cars and read the articles. Talked my mom into going to Yakima to Cloverleaf hobby shop to see the full size Big T that was on display promoting the model and then we went a couple of blocks to the Studebaker dealer to look at the First Avanti that had just been put on display and my freshly divorced from my stepfather mom flirted with the salesmen while I had more freedom to look the car over.

Who in that time frame didn't make a list of what was advertised in those adds for their dream engine or car. I could never save up enough money to order a T bucket body and frame but that didn't keep me from looking at the adds and dreaming.

None of those manufactures were bought out. The price of advertising in any print magazine is through the roof and the cost per thousand circulation doesn’t justify the ad costs. All of those 1” ads in the back of the magazine were there to qualify for the 12X rate when the manufacturer decided to go for a half or full page to introduce a new product. There’s always a lot of misleading information posted in a thread bemoaning the loss of another print edition.

  3. Well let’s look closer. Perfect circle was bought by Dana, Autolite by Fram group, Revel merged with Monogram and was bought by Hobbico which went bankrupt in 2018, Firestone was bought by the Japanese company Bridgestone and American racing company was bought by a conglomerate several years ago.

does it really matter that they are owned by someone else? they are still in business under the same name after all.... a company does not cease to exist just because they have new owners

My worthless thought on the times. My local bookstore, BAM, filled up all the aisles years ago with Duck Dynasty stuff. I walked by, and that didn't bother me, at least they were still in business, now the aisles are full of witchcraft stuff thst looks like it's aimed at young people. I went in last week, specifically looking for a WWll book I'd read about...... Their entire non-fiction section is gone. Poof.
I LOVE old magazines.... That's the REAL time machine, the real magic carpet ride.....
We're the end of another era...... Again...

  7. As far as the demise of any automotive magazines, to quote Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories" Being 83 years old I have accumulated quite a collection of automotive magazines dating back to January 1948, the first Issue of Hot Rod Magazine. It was fun, and informative collecting all of the magazines, including the annuals. I am thankful that I still have a great memory, and I share it on my posts here. I am not always correct, but I try to be. I much prefer print magazines as opposed to digital. I like to hold the magazine in my hand, and when I put it down, I know where it is if I need to refer something.

  8. I mean look at mooneyes.....owners aren't even American. Yet they were one of the more pleasant aftermarket mail order companies I have dealt with in the last year

Wow! Did not know that. I recall subscribing in the early 80s as a teenager. Recall all the hype at the time on the FWD tech. Kept a subscription going for decades until I got married. Very sad…

You guys are arguing over geo-political nonsense on a foundation of two really shitty magazines... Where's the sense in that?

And BTW, the Mooneyes people are fucking fantastic... and Japan is the epicenter of craftsmanship these days.
