    '80's?
Favorite tune line was "Angel flyin' too close to the ground."

And most of the fun shit by that other Roth character. The one who sang "Just a Gigilo"
I was driving a punched out '55 Olds and bar hopping on an XLCH back then.

It rolls on and on because you have brought it up to the top 5 or 6 times just to tell everyone how much it sucks. ha ha ha

That photo of scarrylarry is priceless. If you find Spike dead in the morning Larry will be suspect #1. ha ha ha

I have actually been listening to the classic alternative station a lot since the Sirius/XM merger. I liked the harder edge to the boneyard that hair nation doesn't have. I need a fix of Maiden, Dio, Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, and Priest as well.

  3. i'm class of 87. nobodys mentioned tora tora! or accept yet. my favorites were/are twisted sister, ac/dc, kiss, cinderella, judas priest, britny foxx, jakyl, aldo nova, among others.

  5. i saw accept open for kiss in 82 or 83. it's the only time i've ever seen a standing ovation for an opening band, no one wanted them to leave. "balls to the wall".

yeah, I know, that was sort of the point. :) just a little subtle ribbing, didn't mean to rub the wrong way.

Now we're getting some where. ^^^^^^
Only on the HAMB could we find a 8 page post about '80s metal. I think we all lived through it. Some of those bands were great, some sucked. I looked more like one of the Ramones back in the day. Leather jacket, ripped jeans, T shirt - wait a minute I still dress like that. I started skating in about '84 and found punk and hardcore shortly after that. Wait a minute, I still skate and listen to punk and hardcore - and I wonder why all my friends won't hang out with me anymore. My first show was The Circle Jerks and Fugazi which was fun as I was the only Indian guy in a sea of Skinheads (long night.) Saw L 7, The Ramones, Social D, Ministry, Anthrax (yes, I like them too), etc. Went to a ton of skate demos and through it all I had big, old, American cars while my friends built mini trucks and then tuners. Hell, the car I'm building now is almost the same as my HS car. Bigs N Littles, no interior, and 4 colors of paint. Wow, what a trip. Time sure flies and I guess everyone has their comfort decade. Mine was like '84 - '94. ...but now I'm rambling. :)

  9. Im mostly into punk and hardcore these days, but SLAYER still raigns as the heavy weight title holder. I always will listin to Suicidal, Pantera, Danzig, Gwar, etc, but if I ever have to listen to Faster Pussycat or Winger again I might just climb a clock tower with a rifle..............

I turned 60 in August, and my 'prize' present was a ticket into the mosh pit to see JUDAS PRIEST live! Would you believe the grandkids bought it for me!

I've been waiting 33 years to see The Priest live with Rob Halford on vocals, and this is how close to the stage I was....

(Oh and back to the car names, my English Ford Prefect rod was 'BRITISH STEEL' of course!)

And in my other identity I moderate Rob Halford's 'Metal Gods Quorum' on his website...

    Cheers, Glen.

Tiny Tim ROCKS !!! acutally, he used to.

  13. I pretty well missed most of that scene growing up, but..

VH1 Classic runs Metal Mania that's like 80% hair bands and it's funny, for the most part I can leave that on and listen while I read or something, or flip to it during commercials from some other show.

And I agree with what someone else said, a lot of the new bands all sound the same. Even some of the new country singers sound the same, I have trouble telling them apart.

    CheaterRome (post 134) you said

"Hair Metal, I just don't get it"

Getting laid, partying, fast cars, loud music, etc............WHAT IS NOT TO GET ???
Take it for what it was/is, it is just music to have a good time to. Granted, a lot of it was so cheesy is was ridiculous but a lot of it was killer. I don't think you will find better singers or guitar players in any other form of rock n roll. Now before everyone starts ripping that statement apart, yes there are other great player that do not play hair metal but as a whole, there were some great players back then.

I like DIME too.......Not a Pantara fan but he was a class act. And he started out as a member of the eyeliner/spandex club before they changed their style. And you know what ? He never apologized for it because he was into it and thought it was cool. It was just part of the times........

  22. I have been drunk enough to sing/scream along to Faster Pussycat's "Tattoo" in the car with my buddies with all the windows open on the interstate after nickel beer night on more than one occasion...

I also sat on the floor of a shitty apartment with a scowling, pissed off lesbian at 3 am while my buddy was busy getting a social disease from Stephen Pearcy's sister* in the other room... There's a whole beginning and ending to this story that there isn't enough room for here, but it was a weird 2 days...

    * She said she was Stephen Pearcy's sister...

Thanks for making me relive that stupid time, and no, I won't be naming my car "Miss Pearcy's Crotch Crickets"

How about Motley Crue's self titled album from 1994 with John Corabi taking Vince Neil's place. Talk about a KILLER CD. Jesus.........

Corabi's band before Motley called 'The Scream" had a killer CD as well. If you can find it, pick it up....

  24. Wow this has been a flashback for me...loved the metal (still do somewhat...Priest rules!) more than the glam-stuff. I can blame it for my hearing loss now that I'm older, bad thing is you can't listen to it without turning it up loud and that sucks.

Sorry I missed this yesterday (thread, not post).

But, please explain how the above description of the "times" are any different than the 60's, 70's, 90's or even today (well, with the exception of smearing on eyeliner). Your description, to me, pretty much sums up every teens years (if they were "cool").

Band names changed but that was about the only thing different besides the clothing being worn.

How is it different ??? Because back then the local music scenes were thriving. There were lots of places to play and when you went to the clubs, it was like going to a concert. The floors were filled with people watching bands perform. Granted it was a bar as well but people went specifically to see the bands. I have been to a million clubs since and there are really no places for bands to really play and perform like that anymore, there are a few but it is nowhere near like it was, not even close. Can't even begin to compare it. Unless you played back then and now like I have, you probably would not understand. Trust me, you had to live it and if you did you would get what I am talking about. All teens party and have a good time no matter when it is for sure, but I guarantee that it is not the same if you are in a band now compared to how it was then.
