Don't forget to brush your teeth....

I would not spend a penny on storage, they ask for it up front or a draw on your account monthly, you ain't in that business so forget that.

I went through this a while back. How i got the thing gone was sent a registered letter to the buyer stating you need the car gone by X amount of days or he forfiets the property. I also sent an email to his personal address, and made a few phone calls. You could start charging storage fees for X amount of dollars, when the bill for storage is greater than the value of the car put a "mechanics lean" on it. If you leave a paper trail he really cant come after you when its gone.

  7. Pretty much what Hillbilly4008 says is the way to go, you might check with a lawyer to make sure to do it legit for your state's laws.

I sold a model A to a guy on here years ago. He sent me half for a deposit and never showed up or sent the rest. every year and a half or so he will pop up and ask when we can meet up for him to come get it...Long enough went by I just had to sell it to someone else. I still havent heard from him in over a year.

Just curious, but wth would someone buy a car they cant come get? Has he ever seen the car? If I had seen it, (would be a have to if I bought it), paid for it, you can bet that I aint leaving without it! But thats me.

Is the vehicle driveable? You can rent trucks and car carrier trailers from Budget and others to haul it one way.

We did not agree on when the car had to be out. He tells me something new every time I call him. I told him today that it will be $10 a day. Im not going to move this thing anywhere for him. BTW I still "own" the car until paid in full for storage and title signed in his name. THanks for all the input and keep the ideas comming.

i have bought 3 cars in the USA,all i can say is getting transport to pick up a vehicle is the most frustrating exersize i have ever had to deal with no matter who i have spoken to.they are quite happy to take the job,a date to have the vehicle picked up was agreed to,the closest to the pick up date so far has been about six weeks.Dave at Dady-o`s-diner will testify to that.Chris in Washington is going through the same fate,no matter how hard i try to get the ball rolling ,transport always is the problem.remember folks when someone buys a vehicle, the only thing they want to do is get the car home, its a new toy and we want to play with it (well i do anyway )i was lucky to have had such understanding blokes to deal with and i`m thankfull to both Dave and Chris for there understanding.Chris has done more than ever could have been asked and im gratfull to him.bill also helped out by delivering to the transporter for me.So stay kool its not always the buyers fault

whatever you do follow the legal trail because that is the right thing to do. contact the buyer and make the needed steps to take it to local storage and your done with it. if they don't pay the bill then buy it back for the storage lien.

Another episode of "As The Stomach Turns". Or is "General HAMBspital"? Re-sell and refund his money. Done. Assuming your 1st sale was documented. Maybe the seller ought to resell it. Maybe both of you shoulda had yer ducks in a row 1st. Amazing how a simple deal goes south so fast. Fools rush in...

call the buyer and give him a reasonable dead line. tell him after that it will be pushed into the street and the town impound yard will store it for him.

The problem with that is the seller will have to pay for the storage fees at the impound as the car is still in his name. If the buyer flakes out and never picks it up then the seller has to pay to get his car back!

  17. What car ???
Ask for pick up in writing
list a short time line of your plans
    follow thru
    send the money back

    complain more here ...

I would check with the impoundment lots. Around here $20-$30 a day is the rate. Send him a Certified letter, with delivery confirmation stating your storage fees per day. Then Also state in the letter that at the end of 30days(if you can wait that long), the car will be put up for sale again. When you sale the car again, refund his money, less storage fees. Make sure you let the new buyer know how long he has to pick the car up, so you don't have the same problem all over again. Good luck .

You got your money, if its good to go send him the title and push it in the street lets the cops tow it he can make arrangements with them to get it. Im sure they will give him his options after that.

should send him a certified letter, without something in writing everything is just a bunch of verbal agreements with the only paper trail being a cashed money order by you....

It's time for you start TELLING and stop ASKING this guy what to do. You can only be yanked around like this if you you allow it. Somebody has to be in charge of this, and no offence, but it hasn't been you so far. You have gotten some good (and bad) advise. Use some of it. This drama isn't going to solve itself, and neither is the buyer. Whose left?

How far is this guy from you? As said earlier, send the certified letter stating your demands,if this idiot can"t deal with a shipper trying to go out of his way to do the work than screw him.Give him a deadline ,be firm.Is this guy on the Hamb or not?

I went through this a couple years ago with a 53 Hudson. After several months, I did the registered letter thing and gave him a deadline. Never heard a peep. I resold car and - being wiser- I put a pick-up deadline in the bill of sale. Guess what? Yup, ended up selling it a third time. When the third guy was dragging his feet, I was thinking that this car was a pretty good investment. I ended up giving him a couple days grace and he picked it up in a snow storm. Only car I've ever sold more than once......

Take the advice given by plym49..check your state regarding "abandoned vehicles" process. I managed property for several years and people would leave vehicles here and I could not just get rid of them. Wis. has laws for this, once the vehicle is declared abandoned per the definition of the law or local ordinance, you can proceed to "move the vehicle" per the law, which may mean, scrap it, sell it, etc. Protect yourself by checking first......

I had a 68 Coronet I sold about 10-12 years ago that was the same thing for me. I sold it for $750. Guy gave me a $250 non-refundable deposit. In our contract for the sale, he had to pick it up within a month and pay the balance and remove the vehicle or he forfeited the deposit. At the end of the month, I called him and he didn't answer. I left a message. I did this every day for about 2 weeks. No response. No nothing.

So, back up for sale it goes. I sell it again for $750. I get a $200 non-refundable deposit and the same stipulations as before. Same thing happened again. No response from the buyer. I'm thinking I have struck a gold mine! Finally, a 3rd guy bought it for $700 and he hauled it away the day he paid me.

Sounds like a good plan to me too. You can still be cool, but don't have to lose your garage space in the process. Good idea !
