how do you guys decide on what to ask for a car when your sellin'? I'm about ready to start taking the poncho out (finally almost done...) with a for sale sign on it, but I dunno what to ask really, it still needs a little work, but nothing major, just a little wiring work and the door jambs need to be done. I planned on doing the doorjambs, but my shop time is getting short. I'll post more info on what I've done to the car if ya want.

  2. More info just to make the ol fart (me) happy.

I look in the want ads in the local paper if I'm going to sell locally. They should have a section on Sunday for antique and classic cars.
If I were going to sell on the HAMB I'd just try and keep the price reasonable (IE less than 40 or 50 K [IMG]) or ask for offers and deal from there.
Ya might try and scope out the prices on the Hemmings site or some Poncho sites.
    No help right?

A good rule to remember is that you can always come down on your price, but ya can't go up. I usually check eBay, autotrader.com, and the local rags... And I try and always give a little room to work...

well it's a more door, that's the worst thing about it really, but at least it's a hardtop. Silver w/silver Flake roof, dash, interior trim, steering wheel, air cleaner. Quarter trim and taillight are molded in. Body is painted Dupont Bright atlantic blue, paint isn't "perfect" but it looks pretty damn good. Just added some small black scallops behind the rear wheels yesterday. Motor runs pretty good, new battery & rebuilt starter. Interior is alright too, after what littl ebit of wiring needs to be done is over with it would just need some good carpet in it to be pretty nice looking. (i've got some old*****ty carpet in it now and it looks ok, but not really car material). The wiring that needs to be addressed is some of the dash lights and the turn signals. New hubcaps, almost brand new tires, rebuilt speedometer....Pioneer cd player with 2kicker 4.5" in the front w/1 pioneer 10" in the back with a 200 watt amp. That'll all i can think of right now...Theres a few pictures here...

As people save said before, there are a lot of on-line places that sell cars so check some of them.

checked the websites and it looks like stockers in good shape are selling in the $5500-$6500 range. What do you do to account for the custom work?

You should think about selling a car before you buy it. The reason I say that is that if something happens and you should want to or have to sell it then it will be easier if you don't have too much in it. Before I buy a car or trade for one, I think about that. Old cars are a great investment just like realestate as long as you don't have too much in it. And just like realestate the more you fix it up the more its worth, but that's more money that you will have in it as well.

All you can do is go by how much you have in it(initial cost+any money you have put into it). And you really can't add your labor rate into that equation because it will really drive the price up and no one will buy it.

With all of that said, a car is only worth what the guy that wants it bad enough will give you for and how much you're willing to take.

Thats my take on it. [IMG]
