The other day I found a car I'm interested in, it's an incredible deal, but it's just about 2,000 miles away in northern California. I got a free shipping quote from a company I found doing a Yahoo search, and they said $820 for an enclosed trailer delivered door to door. It's a running, drivable car so it wouldn't necessarily need to be dropped off right at the house here, and if an open trailer would be significantly cheaper I'd go that route.

Is that a good deal, or could I get it shipped skillfully for less? $820 for an enclosed trailer doesn't sound too bad, but I guess I was expecting less.

  2. That sounds low for the distance/transport method ,to me.....book it before he backs out. [IMG]

that is actually very good, but to answer your question of getting it shipped cheaper, you'll have to decide whether or not it is a car that can be on an open trailer for several days or longer (vandalism/damage, theft of parts) and how soon do you want it. i once had a qoute for shipping a car and they said they would have it for two weeks! they musta planned on draggin' it around until something came up to cause them to be in my area. like i said, that's a good price for enclosed.
a footnote: if the car does have a nice finish, ask if there will be another car on the trailer on top of yours ( i've seen a brand new ferrari drip fluids on a $52,000 '68 camaro and you know what some fluids do to a paint job...)

at $820 enclosed cross-country it's a gift. At 2000 miles about $300 of it is fuel costs.

Try DAS auto shippers for a price. For a 72 chevy truck from Dallas, tx to San Diego 520 bucks

Wow...I got an instant quote from DAS and it was closer to $1000 just for terminal-to-terminal. Thanks for the advice, looks like this is a good deal

So what was the name of the company you got the quote from?
