Event Coverage Car show preregistration ideas help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flyboys101, Jul 11, 2023.

  1. Just a side question.
Are the folks saying charge the spectators and not the car owners the same ones wondering why the hobby is shrinking
    Just a thought.

you got thousands invested in a car but another $20 -$50 is gonna derail owning it

    just curious.

  2. No, my dad can cook! He does the Thanksgiving diner, and mom won’t let him store spark plug wires in the kitchen cabinets.

I refuse to attend any car show that has pre registration. I like car shows that have rules about either cutoff dates, or not allowing certain types of cars. But pre registration just not what I like. If the area of the show is limited by size, simply say so in the flyers, so people wanting to attend know to get there early. Then when it's full close the entry and block off access.
I think you're making this way too complicated, which is going to only tick people off, and make far too much work for the people involved.

What you described gives more likelihood of having upset people. I don't understand what you find so complicated or unappealing about pre-registration? It's a show of 100 cars, not 3,000. Pretty easy to manage registration for that number. Then you need less volunteers and won't have registration lines on the day of.

The biggest problem with pre-registration for me is whether the vehicle I want to take will be running when the show comes around :p

It is perfectly reasonable to have a restricted show. Just make sure your vision for the kind of cars you want to attend is clearly spelled out. Some of the most talked about and most respected events are only open to certain types of vehicles. Just like this forum that is for 65 and older styled traditional hot rods and customs. I did however have to delete a post on the previous page that showed a 55 chev with giant billet wheels... Man I sure get tired of that....

  6. As I noted, my comment was based off my experience around here locally. But, it looks like it is gaining traction for a variety of things just perusing their calender

It is the world's largest event ticketing and marketing platform, a business worth about $1B. I understand you were stating your local experience, it was just a huge understatement of their utilization.
