As someone that just started to put my car in some shows I think that, yes its ok if its for a good cause! yes, its ok if you get some cool goodies! [like I need more stuff for my pile!] ya it's ok if your next to or by your buddies and having fun! Ya, they are cheap plastic trophys, not like the old metal ones! But, is is cool to get one now and then. even better if you don't go there to come home with one! It a pain to sit there all day or night just to babysit your car! but I like when a old timer looks at my car and says "I had one of those, and starts up with some old stories!! I have some old programs and stuff on my seat from Ohare raceway that was in Schiller Park Ill. Love to hear those tales!!

Von zipper kinda sums it for me. I mean, I worked on my car for nearly 6 years, and it sure wasn't to win a trophy, it was to share the building experience with my son and to drive whenever I felt like it. But since it's been done, I've entered in a couple local shows and yes, they all charge something. But I've got to meet some nice guys, meet some real jerks and see some neat cars. Even won a couple times. But my favorite show was one about 100 miles away. I didn't have motel money, so it had to be a "down and back in one day" thing. My brother and I met about 6:00 am and drove down as the sun was coming up, spent the day checking out the cars and bs'ing with some guys we hadn't seen in years, then drove back as the sun was setting. I didn't win anything, but so what? I loved hearing the motor run, seeing the world from the driver seat of my pride and joy and putting it back in the garage, bug spattered and all. Will I go back next year? Bet on it. It gives me an excuse to DRIVE the damn thing.

You have obviously never organized an event of your own. Rental for the show grounds, insurance, security, merch staff employee's , receptionists, etc,etc cost money and lots of it. This is no personal stab at ya but so many people always want to attend functions and never want to spend the money to enter an event that they feel are en***led to receive for free. Sure there is profit at the end of the long weekend but the promoters earned that profit - be it small or large. Some people like yourself may also not realize the long hours it takes promoting these things prior to the show even starting.
I didn't attend indoor car shows until the early 1980's so i don't know how things were run prior to that, but i have a hard time accepting that every car show was free in the early days as you say.

I don't really see what the big deal is with paying to get into a show. It takes alot of time and money to organize a show. When you really think about it, $30 is cheap. How much would you pay to go to an amu*****t park? $50? That 50 bucks gets you an entire day in the park, but 90% of the time you are in there, you are just standing in line doing nothing. Depending on the show, you could spend 60% of the time you are there walking around looking at other people's rides. At a show, you get to see everyone else's rides and how hard they have worked. Maybe you can get some inspiration and ideas from everyone else's rides, or possibly do the same for them with your ride.

There is nothing I like seeing more than someone parking their ride and before the owner can even get out of the vehicle, there is a mob of people surrounding it already.

So let me get this straight because this is pretty confusing... on one thread you guys bash the guys with "gl***" cars and on another its ok to have a "gl***" car? I never said anything about All the 55-65 year old guys just the **** heads who think they are kings because of a 200k "hot rod"...And its ***holes like Rusty who make sure the younger guys stay away from hot rods and build other cars like imports. Maybe if you would stop bashing people for a minute and try to teach or lend an opinion you would see more rods instead of civics and eclipses

what is so terrible about imports? not all of us have ones with bad body kits and cheesy wings, and not all of them are civics. some of us have worked just as hard on our old *** imports as in more traditional rods. This is why I miss the old time shows, at the small shows a lot of people were very interested in all of the one off stuff i have made. When you put a bunch of guys together and it's not some huge stuffy show, it breaks down some of those stereo types personally I don't like the over fibergl***ed rolling civic boom boxes myself, Thats why I build my car the same way the traditional guys do,ANd when I go to these small shows people notice. I go to shows to see the work people have put into their cars, thats the point, it's not super important to me where the car was made, I can tell the cars that have real work and i pay attention to those cars. I have a sticker on my car that says NO BOLT ON ANYTHING!

Real Simple.................Supply and Demand.............if they can fill the shows charging for entries, then it makes business sense............when and if entries decline, then they would have to adjust the fees down to increase supply (entries).
Try a "real show", NHRR Bowling Green KY, $50 car entry, $50 per Person, a free crew member p***. And then you are up against top shelf show cars that are museum quality. Lets see? Aluminum Fender 426 Max Wedges, Thunderbolts, 409 Light weight Chevy, Hemi Superbirds? SOHC Fords? Heck my brothers L-78 Camaro was only good enough for a beer runs.................but we all had fun...............because it is a top shelf show.................You get what you pay for in the end........................

i'm trying to change that in my own small way, I don't like the hot import nights eithier not my style, I seem to fit in better with the old Z car restorers and that group, One thing i hear lots when I go to shows is : "where do you get your parts?" I explain to a lot of these younger guys that they can build an import with their own stuff and not have to order it out of a catalog like everyone else. I hope i can influence some of them to use their brains and actually think. thats one of the good things abot the small shows. Put down the dam video game or the i pod or j pod or whatever the hell it is, pick up some tools and actually learn to do something.

Take your pick of correct answer:

"Cause hydrogen and stupidity are the only universal constants"

    or

" If they (read WE) were not meant to get sheared, God would not have made them sheep"

I suppose the two could be combined.

I have stopped going to any shows with my toys. In the case of Brit cars, it is even more insulting since spectators often get in for free while owners pay for "parking"

The only thing worse is someone making personal attacks on someone because of their age or what they are wearing.

Style has a lot to do with age groups. hawaiian shirts or black T-shirts should not make a difference.
