Anyone remeber this comic books? They were like half the size of a regular mag. It has a how to draw section ...all sorts of cool stuff. Anyone have any?
there are few that are firmly but vaguely embeded in my memory, like one where the robber takes off in a hot car and a cop jumps in with a kid in a hopped up '55 Chevy and takes chase, the kid is using driving techniques he read about in a magazine at the end the poor cop is tramatized to incoherent babble.. I especially looked forward to the farmer hot rodders, they could build a rail job out of tractor parts, man I loved all the art, I wanted to be a cartoonist so bad..
That magazine was great for destroying the minds of pre teen youths. George Trosley was my favorite artist. Krass and Bernie screwed me up, I thought you could really do the stuff they did. Check out http://www.georgetrosley.com/, I think he sells a how to draw book. Ray in CT
You mean you can't? Holy crap, I've based my whole life on Krass and Bernie. I've got the messy garage, I've got the never ending projects.....I've got no job.... The only think I can't seem to get right is making a driver out of a pile of parts in ONE day and tearing ass around the country. Ol Krass and Bernie could just make anything happen. I'm a failure in comparison.
George is also a HAMBer..Posted an intro months back. I bet he's lurking. maybe not.. I'll tell him to chime in some time.. Spike
George makes some great 'toons there. After seeing his site I guess I will be ordering his HowToDraw-book one of these days, just for the sake of having it... Cool stuff...
CAR toons is the reason I worked on cars my whole life. I loved Rudy Hogg. If it was out today I'd buy it. I wonder if some one could reissue the comic. Thanks for bringing up good memorys. Mick
I recently emptied out a storage unit I've had for just to damn long. I found a bunch of magazines from the 80's. Hot Rod, Car Craft, Truckin', and about 10 Cartoons magazines. Some have the Tshirt iron ons. Not sure what I'll do with them yet, right now I'm just having fun rereading them.
I've posted theses before, but here is a pile of old magazines my dad had as a kid. I swear he read them once and then put them in a box. Almost all of them are MINT.
I've been a fan of this stuff (CarToons, Odd Rods, Dave Deal, Big Daddy Roth) since childhood, and it got me to thinking, can it be recreated digitally? Here are some preliminary attempts . . . whatcha think?
OMG.. I cant belive I forgot thier names! I just remember going shopping with my mom and spending my whole allowance on them. I grew older and stop going shopping with mom (age 27 LOL) and didnt buy them anymore.
60's Style, I use Ulead PhotoImpact 7. Handles Photoshop files, works with objects like layers, does some nice 3d stuff, though my first picture is a render from 3D Studio Max.

The BEST car magEVER!! That mag got me all through junior and senior high! My boss at work had a few old ones from the 60's. I painted the roof of his truck for 'em. And I've got some of the ones I bought during the mid-late 80's. Were really hard to find living in Alaska. Josh
Dont forget Drag Cartoons by the late great Pete Millar! Pete was a Drag racer and one of the best hotrod artist ever!
