From my experience, if you turn the key and hear a click, it means all wiring from the key to the starter is good.

You're right that the wiring is ok, but the starter motor proper is not receiving voltage if the contact bolt is worn away as noted.

C9, good trick, if memory serves you need to roll both large terminals over.

Maybe. My experience has been the bolt on the battery cable side takes the worst beating cuz that's where the arc break is taking place.
Breaking DC arcs is tough duty.

True on the two Chevy's mentioned and also daughters old Toyota** pickup.
    Same trick fixed the Toyota.

**May have been a Nissan or something else - all the little pickups look the same to me.

well it was the starter. The parts store was NO help though, they could get one for a 61, but it would take 7-10 days. THey hooked the fucked one up to the tester adn the guy I know that works there told me the solenoid seemed fine, it was the starter that wasn't working. The thing spun like hell on the machine, but he said that it throws a shitload of juice to it. I'm gonna go see an old man that is supposed to be the best around at rebuilding starters, machines his own replacement parts and stuff, and he's supposed to be cheap and that's always a plus. Hopefully after that I'll be able to finally drive the thing some before time to sell it....thanks for all the help guys.

arc the starter with a screwdriver and establish if it is the starter or something prior to the starter. If it cranks over good then it is not the soliniod or the starter.
