so i'm needing to rebuild my carb. its a carter 4bbl. i looked for the stamping numbers, and all i can find are 2 different numbers on opposite sides of the carb that don't seem to mean anything. i know the number should be stamped on the front by the idle screws. a 4 digit number followed by an S, right? well, it aint there! i pulled the carb and looked everywhere, but nothing other than 6-1398, and 0-1233. what gives? oh, it's not the stock carb for the car, so i can't go that route in finding a rebuild kit. any ideas?
Mine was on the side of drivers side rear mounting tab. That was for a '60 Cad though. I think I read somewhere they were also stamped on the back side of the main carb body too. Here are a couple sites I found that my be able to point you in the right direction. http://www.cfiworld.com/everythingcarbs/antique/carb-id-num/carter.htm http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carburetor_ID.htm HTH, good luck
thanks for the links, i think. i checked out em out. the second one lists all the locations the number may be on my carb. then it states that some only came with the stamped steel tag, and had NO numbers on the carb itself. i can't win!! stupid pontiac, i'm going out to buy a honda.
