I have a 291 Desoto Hemi which recently ran for the first time (after sitting for a few years). I was last told that the motor had 35,000 on a recent rebuild. So after getting it going the motor ran pretty decent for about a half an hour. I turned it off and once I tried to re-start, the engine was seized. Turned out I had thrown a bearing. So I had a local shop (that knows Hemi's) rebuild the entire top and bottom half. <O</ONow for some reason I cannot get enough fuel to the motor to keep it running. The tank is clear, the fuel line is not obstructed, the fuel block between carbs is clear, and I replaced the electronic fuel pump with an upgraded one. I have a 2x2 Edmunds intake with 2 brand new (3 years ago - but never ran) <ST1rochester</ST1 dual jet 2bbl carbs. I can see that the front carb sprays fuel better than the rear. I am frustrated because the motor sprayed fuel perfectly fine before I tore the motor out and had it rebuilt. I kept the intake and set-up at my garage, so I know nothing was changed. The motor will run if I spray starting fluid, but only burn up what starting fluid I put in then stop. I am thinking maybe the floats on the carbs may be stuck? Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.<O</O
Take apart, clean, put in new gaskets, be sure to double check float level. Every place you see a hole, shoot some spray carb cleaner through it and see that it comes out someplace, or two someplaces in the barrels... If possible on your manifold, block off one carb with a simple gasket missing the big holes, get car running on each of the carbs as singles. THEN it's time to figgerout getting tuning and linkage right.
