So, I'm in the process of rebuilding my stromberg carb for my 1949 Dodge Coronet 230 Flat six and find myself asking, If I can't get this thing back in shape (parts are hard to find) what carb can I put in its place? I now pass this question on to you. The Problem I have is I can't locate the " pump by-pass jet #56". Any info on that part or a good replacement carb would be great!
They dont make that pump any more but an easy fix is soaking it in wd40 until the leather ring swells back up. I just had my bxvd-3 carb rebuilt and thats what worked on it. You can order the rest of the rebuild kit from napa for 32 bucks .
The kit that I got came with the new piston pump and piston dashpot. leather, rings and all. It's the jet underneath that I'm having trouble with. I found 1 company that has them but will only sell them as a part of their rebuild kit (extra cost). So get this everybody and tell me if it rubs you the wrong way too... I just bought a rebuild kit for $60 from "Company A". It did not come with nor do they carry the jet that I need. "Company B" has the jet I need but will only sell it to me as part of the rebuild kit at extra cost. The same kit that I already got from "Company A" for $60 is $90 at "Company B" and to include the pump by-pass jet is an extra $50!!!!! They won't sell it to me separately.
