I recently picked up a 52 Dodge Coronet with the 230 flathead 6 motor. All original. I am wanting to swap out the single barrel carb for a 2 barrel, and have come across a few places telling me a few different things as far as what size carb to use. Just wondering if anyone out there has any sort of clue as to what will be best for an engine this size without pushing too much air into it.
engine displacement X max RPM / 3456 = max carb CFM SO in your case it could be: 230 C.I. X 5000 / 3456 = 332.75 CFM SO you would be safe with a 325 to 350 CFM carb.
i am running a 80s escort holley/weber in place of my rochester with langdon's adapter. easier to start, tune, and idles better, but it feels like the rochester has better response. edit: on a 235 six
I know the perfect way to have two barrels on a flathead 6--2 one barrels. And I know where to get the manifold to do it with... http://homepage.mac.com/rmccombs/StumblinIdles/PhotoAlbum44.html send a PM if you are interested.
I knew a guy with a '51 Dodge pickup who bought a 1 to 2 adapter, he used a Rochester 2gc. He reported that throttle response was dramatically better, that it pulled harder as well. He started with 49 jets, but it ran hot. Don't know what he finally settled on for jets. Eventually the 230 was replaced by a Chevy 4.3. Personally I like the Offy manifold with 2 B&B's on my '50 Wayfarer with 230, though i am trying to get back an Edmunds intake thatI had many moons ago.
