I have a dual carb setup that the smallest carbs I can run on it is Edelbrock 500 cfm. the engine i'm using is mostly stock how can I use a set of these carbs without overwhelming the engine? Thanks...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
????? In alphabetic order: Carter produced AFB's in 400 CFM Carter produced WCFB's in 375 CFM Holley produced 2140's and 4000's in 375 CFM Rochester produced 4GC's in 375 CFM Stromberg produced 4A's in 425 CFM Jon.
Years ago I knew a guy who wanted to run two 4bbls on a basically stock motor. He disconnected each carb linkage so only the primaries worked, then adjusted linkage so first carb opened then the other just as if one 4 bbl was on it. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
I have the Edelbrock 500 CFC carbs on a mostly stock Ford 302. Not one single problem. They are vacuum secondary carbs and I use the Edelbrock progressive linkage. The carbs work great right out of the box, at least for my application. Are they overkill for this engine....sure, but I like the look on my wagon.
They only let in the amount of fuel that the engine needs, they work off of air being drawn in and triggering the weighted door, I ran a pair of 600 cfm Carters with straight linkage without any problems on a pretty mild 350, you'll be fine. What is the setup you have, some are single plane while others are open ?
Too much carburetor will deaden the low speed throttle response, compared to smaller carburetor(s). Despite some comments above, too large a carb., will make an engine sound sluggish, like when leaving from a stop, at idle. You simply can't argue with physics and expect to win..! Automatic trans. cars will suffer the most. Manual trans. cars, and or cars with lower gear ratios in the axle, can get away with a little too large a carburetor. Automatic trans. cars with higher stall torque converters can also cheat the size wizard thing a little too. Mike
My intake is an Edelbrock F28 and it can only use AFB style carbs on it no Holley's! Only Edelbrock , Carter, Etc. The smallest four barrel carb Edelbrock makes is a 500cfm. I have never dealt with Carter AFB's before.
Sure, just an Offenhauser intake and a pair of Carter super compe***ion 600 cfm carbs Ugh, stupid photobucket won't let me into my albums, let me see what I have on the phone I can go uncover the car and take a couple photos if need be, here's a video that shows no bog or hesitation, stock torque converter, stock fuel pump, points distributor, it works but people always try to give a hundred reasons why it won't or an excuse of why it only works in my car. .
If you had a Chevy I'd possibly offer up my C26 with a pair of 500 compe***ion Carters on it that need rebuilt, but that don't make an A-dap-ter kit for that..lol
