When I have my 318 in my 40 dodge in park or neutral and rap on throttle I get nice response and no bogging. When I am driving and take off from a stop nice and easy I also do not get a bogs it is nice and smooth. But if I take off from a stop and punch it to wide open throttle the car moves but is really bogging for about 5 seconds then comes into it. If I am driving and going 30-50 mph and punch it, it takes right off with no bogging at all. Also when I get done driving the car and park it in the garage, if you come out say a hour later you can smell gas fumes. I do not really know too much about the engine. When I traded my model a for it the gentlmen told me it had a slight cam and other than that it was farely stock engine. It does have a holley 4 barrel, that is all I know about the carb I am looking for advice on what I should be looking for from the stop to WOT situation. Sounds like the secondaries are opening too soon, or may be a bit lean. Or it's just too big a carb. I never liked a Holley on a 318, a small AFB/Edelbrock is a better choice.
Sounds like a lean bog to me. Needs more pump shot. Go buy you a book about Holleys. They're the simplest and the best carbs out there.
2x on pump shot. I bet it's the accelerator pump cam that needs adjustment. Get that book, it'll pay for itself.
