I bought a used carb it's like a Holley 4160 or 4150 it has no Holley markings or ID numbers it's a dual pumper with a fuel block on one side and a metering plate on the other! Can anyone give me some information on this carb? Thanks, txoldrodder@att.net
Your pictures don't show the tell tale stuff. The boosters installed are old style. Are the float bowls center hung? Is the fuel feed connected to both float bowls or just the primary with a connecter tube to the secondary bowl? There should be a list number and possible date code stamped on the front of the choke air horn. It has a manual choke and vacuum controlled secondaries.
That looks like one of those Chinese Knock Off carbs that were going around a while back. can't remember for sure, but I think it was ProComp who was bringing them in
Its a 650ish Holley 4160, vacuum secondary that has been 'upgraded' with newer bowls and dual feed - it is not a double pumper. The floats are 'center-hung', fuel crossover tube eliminated. This carb might have been one of the Holley 4160 that originally came without an adjustable needle & seat, you had to bend the float arm. A pita to get right. The bowls on it now have adjustable needle & seats and sight glass. For a rebuild kit you'll have to get a high quality 4160 kit from AED, and others, so you'll have the N&S and the right gaskets, if you get a kit according to the carb numbers found on the right of the choke tower you'll get the stuff intended for how the carb used to be before the new bowls.
looks like a mixmatch bunch of parts put together to make a whole carb. good luck finding an exact fit kit .probably need a couple kits to get the right parts to make it work.
Don't toss it they make good paperweights. As far as money is concerned, sometimes we get a "Deal" only to find out that we are no longer a virgin. Find what it takes to recover from the bad decision and go on with life, consider it the cost of higher education.
If you look around, you should be able to find a reasonable deal on used Holley carb, but try to make sure it's all original still. Or get an old Carter, I have a pair on my Chevy II that set me back $50 each plus kits and stock jets, they seem to work ok, I've run a couple 9 second passes with them, and driven up to Wisconsin and back. Maybe it's just that I like to know what I have, and parts that don't have numbers don't do much for me.
I'm in total agreement on the, "it's a Chinese knockoff". Look at E-Bay, they're loaded with them. Who knows how well they actually work, but it's another case of reverse engineering a name brand product, building it cheap, and passing them off as the real thing to unsuspecting buyers. It will probably take a Holley kit, since they're essentially a complete copy. This stuff needs to stop, and our government is doing absolutely NOTHING to curb it. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
summit sells the rebuild kits for them , a couple of the guys at the track have them , they put the together as a kit , ( mix and match parts to try make it do what they want ( give them headaches ) the metering plate can be changed to a block with interchangeable jets as the holley parts interchange with these.. this kind of reminds me of the guy who bought all my spare parts and tried to build a carb out of them.
I picked up a good 650 from a friend and I'll just through that one in a box and put it on a shelf! Thanks everyone for all the help!! John
