I'm wrestling with a Rochester 4GC ('57) and it keeps winning. I've tried rebuilding it, but it's not acting right... might be time to call in an expert. Any recommendations for someone to rebuild it? Anyone local in the DC area?
I had one of those goofing up. The accelerator pump rod was the wrong length, floats not set properly and a vacuum leak between the body and base. Got that handled and it worked well
This "carburetion vs ignition" thing is just plain dumb. Almost all the members on this forum are savvy enough to know the difference the great majority of the time. Sure, it's kinda funny the first time you hear it, but I think it's been overused in this thread that was asking a legitimate question.
I've got a complete Rochester parts manual and service manual, post the numbers of the caarburetor nd I will look to see if I have anything on it.
The Rochester 4GC is an excellent carburetor. While not quite as technologically advanced as the Carter AFB, TQ or the Rochester Q-Jet; the 4GC and the Carter WCFB are probably the two most reliable 4-barrel carbs ever produced. If it is not acting properly, there is a reason. If the issue is unresolved (sorry, late to the thread), give me a call during normal business hours (9-12, 1-4 Mon-Tues central time), and I will try to help. Jon
