I was checking the Comcast lineup just now, I think Chasing Classic Cars will show the Model A hot rod at auction tonight at 9PM Eastern.

Doubtful. Fantastic workmanship but some of the styling is too weird for me.

Lots of good ideas on it, for being kinda ugly. Kinda like that cute girl with braces and glasses and goofy laugh

  8. Quality work trumps ugly every day of the week. Ugly needs explaining. Quality work speaks for itself.

Yes, but ugly hits you at the door.

Disclaimer: I do not know the car beginning discussed. This is only a general comment about ugly. ;)

Reminds me of a Hot Wheels car.

I'm willing to bet that engine alone cost more than any 2 of my hot rods. Blown Ardun head flatty, that's real money. Every nut and bolt on that car was lathe turned...

I'm having a hard time understanding what some of you guys don't like about the car. Seriously, I'm just wondering. I see a lot of high-end parts and a lot of very detailed work. Maybe that's the problem... that it's too refined.

Front axle is too far back imo.

It will never make it over a speed bump or driveway ramp! I watched the show last night and was trying to get a look at the front end. Did I see the frame between the axle and the spring?

Too bad it looks like it was bent in the middle.
    It's pretty and it's ugly.
So, that makes it pretty ugly.
    Money doesn't excuse bad taste.

Did you ever "Like" a post so you can "Unlike" it later? I find it personally satisfying.

Not built to my taste but I admire the craftsmanship and attention to detail. Then consider it was built in the Midwest. I like to see all kinds of Hot Rods get recognition wither I like the build or not.

The episode indicated he bought it for himself, at least that was how it sounded to me. He does rotate cars through his personal collection pretty quickly, though - more than once I've seen where he bought a car that he always wanted to have, and then a few episodes later it's on the auction block.

  24. If you can afford to have this type of car built, you can afford to have your gas pumped straight to your tank from your personal tanker.
A lot of cars built here on the HAMB can't do that either.

Through the magic of TV we often have a different perspective of the time frame of events. @stuart in mn is right, in Wayne’s words he “....fell in love with the car and had to have it.” It was at Monterey in 2018 (August?) and took the 1st. place award, and then went to auction in December, 2019. What we do not know are the dates when he first saw the car in Nebraska, or when he had the chance to buy it, but nevertheless programming compressed the timelines.
None of that really matters, irregardless of the cost it’s only a zip-code car to me. Taking it out of a trailer and driving it down the street to the Monterey showing is not the same as leaving home for a 700 mile jaunt and driving it to an event, something that frame could never allow.

I believe it was also a Great Eight contender at the 2017 Autorama. I saw it at GG Nashville in 2017 where it was competing for Hot Rod of the Year. They had to take it out on a road trip and make a couple of passes down the 1/4 mile, so it does have some miles on it. You have to admire the workmanship, but I think that all practicality is out the window when you get to that level.

  30. Wow! I guess Model A prices are going up. You know everyone thinks their car is just like this one.
