History Carl Munz

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wllmkeogh, Feb 5, 2016.

  1. Carl Munz of Fairfield/Hamilton in the 1960’s purchased the older fiberglass moulds for Corvettes as well as he bought all kinds of original still in the boxes Corvette chrome and trim parts. He then bought from all over the country old 1967 or older Corvette drag race cars and refurbished them back to original condition through frame off restoration utilizing Larry’s Body shop in Cincinnatti.Prior to this business he owned a Chevrolet dealership in northern Ohio.

    Questions:

    (1) When he died around 1970 who purchased the moulds, parts and especially the race cars that he had not refurbished yet or was there some type of auction

    (2) What was the name of the Chevrolet Dealership he once owned in northern Ohio

    (3) Does anyone remember seeing the attached car (see photo 1957 corvette) at his location that he never completed and who would have bought it (note: the car is car that was formerly owned by Kenny Felton; Jimmy Williams and Travis Woodward (i.e. Called the Green Frog and had a 409 motor put in it for drag racing - green with brown side grove), Painted red by owner after Ravis Woodward. Was licenced in mid seventies in BUtler county Ohio.Car was oiginal owner Kenny Felton (i,e. where is he now ) with 3 speed fuel injection.

    Any information would be appreciated

Bill, I keep seeing an Alfred Carl Munz from Mansfield ( same town) come up on my search. May help.
I also came across an later article about a fellow from Mansfield named Richard (Dick) Munz who won a trophy with an early corvette down south. Florida I believe. Maybe a relation.?

If memory serves he was called "Mad Man Munz". I saw one of his cars around 1960, it was yellow with snakeskin patterened upholstery, Caddy powered and the horn button had an image of Yoesimite Sam on it. Some images stay in your head for a long time.

  4. I think you are thinking of Earl "Mad Man" Muntz.
