What did yall do (or would you do) for carpet? I know there are plenty of folks making it out there, but what I found is most (maybe all) of them dont have carpet under the seats. Most of them like ACC and others also do not appear to be molded, they are cut/sewn. Not a problem there, but I really want carpet front to back even under the seats, cause I have siliver backed insulation everywhere and dont want it shining through. Sure I could fill in the gaps myself, but for $180 plus to buy that and have to mend it to my liking, 2 local installer quoted me $200 for carpet/pad/install and will cover as much as I want of the floor/firewall. But the thing is, which I didnt ask yet, is he just going to lay in a huge piece of carpet and trim and glue it? If so, maybe not the best option either?? Or I could probably do that myself, I still have the carpet that came out and could pretty much cut one fairly easy and probably re-use the jute. The backing is mine, the carpet was just so so. The one thing the upholster locally said was, the transition from the tunnel to the floor under the gas pedal was steep, and he would have to do something to make it lay correctly. My firewall and tunnel have been modified a bit from original, not sure how far off from factory though. I was thinking maybe you could do the tunnel in a seperate piece of carpet and bind it and have it overlap the floor carpet, dunno. Anyway, what should I do here? I just want good carpet and good fitment. I finally found someone who could share a pic of what the carpet looks like, you can see the gap under the seats.
Yep there is no carpet under the seats on mine, i havent put the seats back in yet so i dont know what it is going to look like. I was a little put off when i unboxed it and realized it was A. not one peice and b. a huge gap under the seat. Maybe some differant companies out there can get you what your after.cheers
Todd, try www.autocarpetoriginals.com the illustration shows a one piece molded carpet(call to verify) they are also offering a internet discount too.
Jeff, they get them from ACC, which I believe in our year, is a cut/sewn. The pics on all the sites are deceiving, because its a generic pic, not our cars. I have been talking to a gentleman over at varkmotors.com named george. They are real nice folks and willing to help out. Prices are great to. They get carpet for our cars from several different vendors, ACC and others. Some are cut/sewn and some are molded. he is the one that told me about the missing carpet under the seats. He just informed me that he can get carpet that is molded from another supplier, it will be a 2 piece front/back that overlaps, but it will cover the entire floor. He said if I was that worried about it, he could probably get them to make me a molded one in a 1 piece if I went with cut pile. Thumbs up to these guys for their customer service. Right now there is free shipping to, and their price is $170 from any of their suppliers ACC being one of them. Same price whether a molded or cut/sewn So. What if i went with a molded carpet and it didnt lay down correctly because of my modified tunnel. Is it reasonable to think that I (or upholster) could just cut out the tunnel piece, bind it, then lay it across the tunnel so it overlaps the floor piece thats glued down?
Looking at your console under construction you may end up splitting the carpet so the molded portion will contour to the floorboards on both sides and the center would be hidden by the console. It is really EZ to screw up a carpet because of your modifications you might want an auto upholstery shop to lay it as they would have the equipment to re-contour it,as Clint Eastwood once said "do you feel lucky?"
ctfortner, did the fellow that you spoke to from Varkmotors say that his stock items were overlapping? I checked out his site and I like what I see so far. I'm partial to the loop myself. I can't believe that a company would be so cheap as to leave a big gap underneath the seat! I'm glad I found out about that before I bought new carpet- I woulda been more than a little pissed. Let us know what ends up happening, what you get, and the quality of the product.
The carpet kit is probably fashioned similar to OEM. The area under the front seat (and back seat) is usually not carpeted. Why? Who knows. Just one of life's imponderables, I guess...
Yeah I will keep you posted on what I do. Thats why I posted this info, because until he mentioned it to me, I had NO idea there would be a bare spot, which as missydad pointed out, is a "factory" replica deal. BUT, as said above, varkmotors said they have several vendors for these carpets ACC and others. One of them does a molded carpet that is complete (no bare spots). He said he could do the same price from any vendor, which is good, and they also price match, but I havent found anyone cheaper than they are already. Even their ACC carpet is $170 i think, which is much cheaper than other ACC sellers. If you decide to use them, call george, he goes above and beyond. He called the manufacturer and got me diagrams and pics of the product so I could see what I was getting, which is the pic above.
Just saw this on E-Bay, sez it covers complete floor? Anyone use them? They state it is cut and sewn. Don't know much about carpet myself but will be replacing mine soon so I am interested in your outcome (or that of others). Good thead... This is for a long roof becase that's what I have but they seem to have all models covered... haha, get it?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/55-5...ccessories?hash=item335c1b1bbf#ht_1702wt_1077
